Dating outside your Religion.

Here in the hills we don't have all that many choices. I married within my species and was satisfied.
You didn't marry family?

I don't know what a lot of you think, but from what I have seen and my own personal experiences I have noticed that a lot of men seem to end up attending and becoming a member of the wifes' church.

Being a non-religious person for many years now, I have dated women who were Baptist, Mormon, Catholic, you name it. Now these relationships certainly weren't long term, but we didn't have any problems because of religion.

It was understood from day 1 that we agreed to disagree and we just focused on the other things in the relationship.

Nope. As I said, wanted to marry within my species. The cousins were all of sort of doubtful background.

There's a gentleman that goes to my church (Christian) whose wife is Catholic. Their children attend church with her. It seems to work for them.

My ex was Catholic, and I obviously am not. It was a huge issue with his parents, and was certainly a strain on our relationship at times.

Auburn fans have religion?

Here is a thought. When you first meet someone you don't ask them a bunch of questions. There is a "spark" or something that made you want to meet them. Asking their Age, income, religion, real teeth, etc. is probaby not good.

I saw a young lady at a softball game and after several weeks of watching her I approached her. I said..."where do you go to church, how old are you, you like orange? Just messing...I asked her for her number and she said..."How old do you think I am"? I didn't think about it, it didn't matter. She was 19 and I was 32. She said I could still call her. I did and we became friends. She is Catholic and went to Mercy. We even dated some, but marriage was out, because of her age not faith. But... big But, we really had fun and if she was older...who knows. God had someone for me and I met her at a Baptist Church when she sang a solo. 1st Samual 16:7

Y'all are causing me some ponderous thought....

My grandmother (Catholic), married my grandfather (Baptist), and they were married over 50 years.

My mother (Catholic), married my father (Doesn't believe in organized religion), and they've been married 42 years.

I (Catholic), married a Catholic, and was divorced after 4 1/2 years.

A man I work with is Jewish, married to a Catholic, for over 10 years.

It may be (hypothetically) easier to marry within one's own faith, but I submit that there are far more compromises than the practice of faith within a certain denomination that make a marriage last.

RM...just had to laugh when I read this!

And for the record...I have never dated a Baptist...just don't think it would work out!

Between being the living embodiment of an extended length Jeff Foxworthy stand up routine, and all-points-and-beyond in the religious arena, we're just some crazy, mixed up individuals. :D

I was going to make a similar post. It would be funny if it didn't scare me so much...

Which scared you the "big but" or the fact that we tend to think along the same line?

My grandmother is a lifelong Catholic who has (and still does) attended mass every day of the week for as long as any of us can remember. She married a guy from Floyd County who was Church of Christ. He goes to church with her only rarely or doesn't go at all and all my aunts an uncles were raised Catholic.

Then my mother, raised a Catholic, married my father who was confirmed in a Lutheran church but attended Methodist services. He was confirmed and recieved the Eucharist in a Catholic Church just a few years after they married.

One made a compromise and the other converted. ... takes all kinds I guess.

I will say this: there is one thing I will never do again. In college I dated a girl who was absolutely certain that God did not exist. It is almost impossible to gain the sort of respect and understanding necessary for a relationship to work when one person can't understand why the other is unable to see the subtle (sometimes not so subtle) beauty of Grace at work every day while the other the seems to think that one and all his friends are suffering from some sort of mass delusion.

I was never "forbidden" to date or marry outside my faith but was discouraged to do so. We also discourage our son in the same manner. We currently have a member of our church who is experiencing numerous problems at home because he married outside his faith. It will cause unnecessary grief, confuse the kids and bring disharmony in the marriage. As far as a Christian choosing to date a non-believer I think the scripture clearly says that we should not be unequally yoked. While some may argue that dating is different than marriage . . . it is a stepping stone. I would suggest to anyone to avoid the situation.

Here in Louisville, two Catholics can marry, and it still be considered a mixed marriage....Lot's of families sit on opposite sides of the Cathederal of Football during the annual Trinity/St. X game. :D

Ain't that the truth!
