I know you can't ever be too careful these days, but sometimes pulling a gun causes retaliation that might not have been needed at all.

Pat - like many others have stated, that BB gun is fun for the back yard and the back yard only. You are going to do nothing but really tick someone off. I understand that some people are not fond of guns, or do not have the experience to become fond of them. If I were you and was looking for something that you could actually use for defense...take a look at something like this.

They have apparently made another arrest in the case today. One has to think that the kid with 4 outstanding arrest warrants won't be let out on bail...

The best thing about the Life-Act systems...they are 42 bucks!! So you are not out a lot of cash for decent protection. I have three of them.

I think you guys are being a bit fanatical here. When I think “roommate” I don’t think of random person, I think of a good friend I have known for a considerable time. So for them to have a gun that I didn’t know about they would 100% have to be hiding it, and yeah, that would trouble me. I doubt they were worried I knew they were competitive skeet shooters.

 

The fact is guns are very dangerous, especially if handled improperly, and although they are legal and useful for legal activities, they are also associated with a host of illegal activities. I would find it a tad disconcerting, to say the least, to know a good friend was adamantly hiding one from me/others. Not everyone who owns a gun is a American patriot who forgot to mention it to their roommates. That appears to be the case with UKPat’s situation, but I would contend that is the exception, not the norm. This is especially true with a good friend, it is not something you "forget" to tell, and that is very much troubling to me.

 

Maybe that is just me.

Thank goodness everything turned out okay and nobody got hurt. Good deal with the roommate with the gun. I understand both sides of the argument about keeping a gun secret, though personally I'd probably let my roommates know.

 

Of course, while guns are fun, I don't own one. I don't know if I ever will.

 

For now, my protection is my armory of swords. I feel perfectly safe with a sharp blade gleaming in my hand. Yeah, it probably wouldn't work out too well if intruders themselves carried guns, but in that scenario they'd have the upperhand anyway. Actually, I'm a pretty good shot, so I dunno.
