This is what I think the Reds need to do in the offseason.

 

Resign Dunn, and trade him along with someone like Edwin or Freel or something to make the package look more appealing for some decent bullpen pitching. They need to figure out what they are going to do in the infield: IMO Votto should play 1st, Cantu play 2nd or short, Phillips play 2nd or short, and Encarnacion (if not traded) play 3rd, as Keppinger being the QUALITY hitting utility utility player the Reds have thought they had with Freel. Keep Griffey because he is one of the only reasons fans are going to see the Reds this season, then you could start Griff in Right, Hamilton in Center, and rotate Hopper and Jay Bruce (yes, I think he is ready by the start of next season) in left.

 

The pitching staff needs TOTAL reconstruction, I think the rotation is pretty good with Harang, Arroyo, Livingston, Bailey, and Belisle/E. Ramirez/Saarloos. But the bullpin needs MAJOR improving. Start with resigning Weathers, put him in the closers role, keep Coutlangus, Saarloos, McBeth and Bray. Trade Dunn if you can get 1 or 2 good relievers, and sign some decent ones in the free agent market.

Sounds great...how? SS? No. 3B? No. Right-handed side of 1B platoon? Maybe, but that won't get you 400 AB's. 5th outfielder? Perhaps. He is getting a lot of doinks and bloops to drop in right now, no question, but I continue to say there are reasons he hasn't stuck in the Bigs before.... .290 with limited speed, limited pop, and limited defensive skills is a tough guy to count on. However, I love the dude and he is clearly white-hot right now.

 

It doesn't hurt that this is the kind of guy that Average Joe Cincinnati Fan will LOVE!!! :bunny: :creepy:

 

Until AGonz shows that he can play at a higher level than he's played, I go with what I see which is Kepp getting on base A LOT and playing solid defense (limited range but consistent).

No offense, my man, but I stopped reading after I saw you proposing Dunn and E5 for "decent bullpen" pitching.

Gonzo has a career body of work that shows he is one of the best defensive SS in the game. There is no way I play Kep over him if all things are equal...

Until then I'm good w/ Kep at short even though I'd give BP a week over there. If Kep hits over .330 for the year he has to get ab's next year.

Shew, it kills me to see any pitcher walk the pitcher. Make him put the ball in play don't put him on base yourself. And why walk in runs, just dumb! And another thing, that 1-2 pitch to Dunn was in the exact same location as the 2 strike pitch to Teixeira. :madman:

I also agree you have to find him ABs next year to see what you've got. I just don't do it over the best defensive player on the team...

Little bit of info for the ones that believe we can't get rid of Dunn because of the offensive stats. Out of the top 7 players (NL) in RBI, not one of them is on a 1st place team. AL 6 out of the top 8 are not on 1st place team. Out of the top 7 HRs leadrers (NL) again none are on a 1st place team. AL not one of the top 8 in HRs is on a 1st place team.

So the 1st place teams don't need a guy with Dunn's gaudy stats, but some believe the Reds do. Just thought I'd throw that out there.
