August 22, 200719 yr Little bit of info for the ones that believe we can't get rid of Dunn because of the offensive stats. Out of the top 7 players (NL) in RBI, not one of them is on a 1st place team. AL 6 out of the top 8 are not on 1st place team. Out of the top 7 HRs leadrers (NL) again none are on a 1st place team. AL not one of the top 8 in HRs is on a 1st place team. So the 1st place teams don't need a guy with Dunn's gaudy stats, but some believe the Reds do. Just thought I'd throw that out there. I don't believe anyone said to keep Dunn for his RBIs. RBIs by itself is/can be a misleading stat. Heck, he usually gets blasted for not having enough. He's a run producer because of the combination of his power and his ability to get on base. EVERY team will take a guy who can produce like Dunn.

Many times we hear of players playing to remove themselves from their real pressures (see Brett Favre).

What does his .373 OBA avg rank in the NL? Can't be that great: its 5th on the Reds

If you haven't noticed, the Reds don't have a lot of those You're not paying attention. HRs and RBIs BY THEMSELVES are not Dunn's only contribution. I think we can all agree that to win games you must GET ON BASE and have people knock you in. Not only does Dunn GET ON BASE with great frequency, his SLG% says that he also gets past first base quite often on average so he's that much closer to scoring . In addition, he also KNOCKS RUNS IN. The Reds don't have a lot of wins because their pitching is not good enough and the main violator of that is the bullpen. The Reds do not need to give up their top RUN PRODUCER (notice the lack of "HR" or "RBI" in that term) for a middle reliever. Either find them in the minors, let your youngsters that are on the MLB level get better, or be shrewd in your acquisitions.
