As I've stated , its the combination of him getting on base often ALONG with his ability to hit for power AND drive in runs that make him a RUN PRODUCER. RUNS CREATED is a stat (with varying definitions) that measures ones contribution to the offense. He's currently 18th in the league ahead of players such as Ryan Howard, Soriano, Griffey, Beltran, and Helton. How anyone can say the guy does not produce offensively is beyond me. It almost makes me wonder what people are looking at.

I think we can all agree that to win games you must GET ON BASE and have people knock you in. Not only does Dunn GET ON BASE with great frequency, his SLG% says that he also gets past first base quite often on average so he's that much closer to scoring . In addition, he also KNOCKS RUNS IN. The Reds don't have a lot of wins because their pitching is not good enough and the main violator of that is the bullpen. The Reds do not need to give up their top RUN PRODUCER (notice the lack of "HR" or "RBI" in that term) for a middle reliever. Either find them in the minors, let your youngsters that are on the MLB level get better, or be shrewd in your acquisitions. Gets on base with great frequency?? August 22, 200719 yr Author You will not find one team that "does not need a guy of Dunn's ilk." What you will find is that they do not want to give up the pitching that the Reds are looking for. Because they know you need good pitching before you need a big stat guy, of which one is strikeouts. I will guarantee you the Reds will never play in a playoff game with Dunn in the lieup.
