Critics argue that publishing names and identifying information about concealed carry permit holders puts them at risk being targeted for violence or identity theft.

If public access is restricted, then would making this list public not be restricted as well? I think there are grounds for the paper and/or editors to face criminal and civil prosecution.

Doesn't this law contradict itself? It restricts public access to the records but allows the media. Isn't the media in business to publish things it knows to the public?

I was thinking the same thing when I read it. Why not just restrict ANYONE from accessing that information. It's NOBODIES business what someone may or may not have in their home. Especially when the person involved has taken the proper precautions to carry a license for a gun.

All Law Abiding American Citizens have the Right to Keep and Bear Arms! Period. If a gun causes crime then this keyboard is responsible for typo's, the pencil is the cause of mistakes and ensless other examples. What needs to happen is for these judges to enforce the gun laws already on the books and not be "bought" by certain interest. Put these people away for the full sentences - no paroll, no re hab (what as joke).

 

The old saying is true - If Guns are Outlawed then only outlaws will have guns. Criminals and thugs do not abide by the law, that is why they are called criminals. If they want a gun, they will get it.

I wonder what would happen if the published list revealed 2,700 women chose to have an abortion in the past 12 months?

What a joke, the anit-gun left trying to deter people from obtaining conceal carry permits. Like previously stated, I would say that people would be outraged if the list included women who had abortions, or a list of homosexuals.

 

Seems as if the powers that be at this newspaper are offended by the second amendment, but embrace the first amendment, it's not a cafeteria plan, you can't pick and choose which parts of the Constitution you wish to embrace and get to throw the rest out.

 

I would love to see the newspaper list everyone in their service area that does not own or possess a gun, so they may experience an increased chance of violent crime (I don't really wish this). I bet if this happened there would be an outcry by these people, saying they have been made unfair targets and that their pursuit of happiness has been infringed upon.

 

Simple fact: in the United States of America, you may own and possess a firearm, you do not have to own or possess a firearm, but if you wish, you may-Constitutional Law. And many state laws have created provisions for carrying a concealed weapon, as they should. If you abide by the law and follow the guidelines provided for obtaining a permit, then you may carry a firearm concealed. These left wing extreamist are trying to infringe upon these rights by instilling fear of public notice in the minds of potential CCDW applicants.

I'd like to hear the arguments on both sides of making public the records for conceal and carry permits. As a parent of small children, I don't think the criminal histories of sex offenders should be kept from public view. There are some cases where the public good trumps the interests of individuals, IMO.
