July 7, 200719 yr I'd like to hear how you can possibly justify comparing law obiding citizens who have voluntarily undergone extensive background checks to exercise their Second Amendment rights to some of the most offensive felons in our society who have already proven their habit of breaking our laws and irreparably damaging our children...
July 7, 200719 yr What a joke, the anit-gun left trying to deter people from obtaining conceal carry permits. Like previously stated, I would say that people would be outraged if the list included women who had abortions, or a list of homosexuals. Seems as if the powers that be at this newspaper are offended by the second amendment, but embrace the first amendment, it's not a cafeteria plan, you can't pick and choose which parts of the Constitution you wish to embrace and get to throw the rest out. I would love to see the newspaper list everyone in their service area that does not own or possess a gun, so they may experience an increased chance of violent crime (I don't really wish this). I bet if this happened there would be an outcry by these people, saying they have been made unfair targets and that their pursuit of happiness has been infringed upon. Simple fact: in the United States of America, you may own and possess a firearm, you do not have to own or possess a firearm, but if you wish, you may-Constitutional Law. And many state laws have created provisions for carrying a concealed weapon, as they should. If you abide by the law and follow the guidelines provided for obtaining a permit, then you may carry a firearm concealed. These left wing extreamist are trying to infringe upon these rights by instilling fear of public notice in the minds of potential CCDW applicants. :thumb: :thumb: Another excellent post. :ylsuper: These people you speak of want a Government Controlled Society with limited freedoms, only the fredoms that they see fit :irked: .
July 7, 200719 yr We as Law Abiding Citizens do not have to and should not have defend Our Right To Keep and Bear Arms! It is a given right by the Constitution. The anti-gunners should have to defend their side, not the other way around:mad: . No comprimise on ANY gun law! I am not defending my right to bear arms, I don't have to. I am standing up and claiming my right to Keep and Bear Arms!
July 7, 200719 yr I wonder what would happen if the published list revealed 2,700 women chose to have an abortion in the past 12 months? :thumb: :thumb: Very good point! They don't want to hear that..............Like I said, they want a "controlled" society. .......................Sound familiar with anything else??

I said I would like to hear arguments on both sides of the issue. You gun guys are a touchy bunch.
July 7, 200719 yr Maybe they're just an idiot. He didn't say they were an idiot because they had a gun or because they followed the law. I'd like to hear the arguments on both sides of making public the records for conceal and carry permits. As a parent of small children, I don't think the criminal histories of sex offenders should be kept from public view. There are some cases where the public good trumps the interests of individuals, IMO. You can not compare a Constitutional right with the rights of a convicted felon. If I am a law abiding citizen and choose to apply for and do in fact receive a CCDW permit, I have done things the right way. Now, if I am a convicted sex offender, which I am not, I have broken the law of the land and I have given up some rights that are entitled to the citizens of this land. You like the liberal media are trying to compare law abiding citizens who own guns to people who are convicted felons. That is the problem the law abiding citizens who take advantage of a Constitutional right are just that law abiding citizens, not criminals. I do not agree with abortion, but I do not claim that people who are having abortions are breaking the law. The people who have abortions are abiding by the law of the land.

While your last statement may be correct, I am more concerned with the laws of God. Do you doubt that they are breaking those laws? As the years pass, it becomes more and more evident that what is "legal" and what is "moral" are completely different. I would choose the latter.

I do think they are breaking the law of God, but I did not want to blur the lines. I was just making the point that even if you do not like some of the laws of this country, they are still laws of this country. Gun rights are protected by the law and so are the rights to have an abortion, laws of the land, not of God.

Tax filings, marriage licenses, and property transactions are perfectly legal activities that are matters of public record. Professional licenses for physicians, attorneys, barbers, and real estate agents are public records. I don't need to draw comparisons with convicted felons to make my point that many transactions between government and individuals are made available through access to public records. And if I had a neighbor or worked with someone who was erratic, seemed unstable, or got drunk all the time, I would appreciate knowing if they were packing heat.

I am sure that Ram can speak for himself but imo he was talking in that abortion, although an abomnation to God is legal in this country as of now. I 100% agree with abortion being WRONG!! Imo abortion is legal murder but that is for another thread that I really don't want to get into right now.

And if I had a neighbor or worked with someone who was erratic or seemed unstable, I would appreciate knowing if they were packing heat. Two Points: 1. Tax fillings, marriage licenses, property transactions, and professional licenses being made public do not run the risk of making those people listed a target for violent crime. Making a public list of gun owners will do nothing but give criminals a heads up on what houses to steal guns at, and give criminals a list of who to shoot first in a hostage situation. 2. This list was not released for the public good. It was published to deter people from applying for CCDW permits. I am not so naive to think that this newspaper was worried about the mental status of people on this list. They just wished to infringe upon the second amendment rights of law abiding citizens who have followed the letter of the law to obtain a permit that is allowed by the state.

Tax filings are FAR from being public record. I don't know where you got that idea.
