As asked before, why do you need that information? Your idiot neigbor could own a gun without a conceal carry permit. Do you want that information also? I'm sure that the newspaper would love to print it. However, most violent crimes with guns are with unregistered or stolen weapons.

Why should I not have a right to know how you vote every election, or how much you pay in taxes every year, or if you've ever had an abortion, or any number of other bits of private information you have accumulated while going about things in a "legal" manner? How about your Socisl Security number or your cheking account balance or how much cash you have stashed in your home for a rainy day?

 

If you're doing things within the law, you should be entitled to some privacy.

 

Now, if you get booked for a DUI, or child molestation, or other illegal act, I agree with you, all privacy goes out the window and we have a right to know.

Now waitaminute. Do you also want a list of everyone in the country who rents a safe deposit box or owns a safe, and do you want the contents of those listed as well?

 

This was extremely irresponsible on the part of this newspaper by invading these people's privacy in such an unwarranted fashion. I would love to have been privvy to the editorial board and staff meetings when this story was being discussed, because it sounds like they lack a voice of reason, or at least someone with the stones to willing to look at all sides of an issue or have an opposing viewpoint.

So my question is, which would make you more uncomfortable? The man walking down your street with a gun, legally, in his hand (or on his hip) or the knowledge that someone may have a gun, legally, under their clothing? No right or wrong answer.

Well, neither is a great option, but if I have to choose, I think I'd probably be less uncomfortable with the guy with his gun on his hip in open view. Seriously, people who want to hide things really bother me.

Owning a gun is a Constitutionally protected right, having sex is not, and yet liberal editors pull an end run to "out" lawful gun owners violating every decent sense of respect for a lawful individual's privacy... while at the same time arguing heatedly to protect the "privacy" of individuals infected with HIV/AIDS, essentially allowing them to go about infecting others with a disease ultimately just as deadly as a well placed bullet.

Actually, I don't profess to be a "liberal". It's just the label some have given me because I am a proponent of peaceful resoultion, have been against the war in Iraq, and generally have a disdain for our current administration....

If the thugs want to commit a criminal act upon you, there is no such thing as a safe distance. If you have something the hoodlums want, they will make every effort possible to make it their own. Having a concealed weapon and the knowledge and training required to obtain it, levels the playing field.

The guy or gal with the legal conceal carry permit who has established themselves worthy to obtain that permit should not be forced to reveal that he has that weapon on his person to just anyone. As others have mentioned should we also be forced to reveal info about our tax return, Social Security #, etc to any citizen who thinks they deserve to know?

Like I said...me owning a gun is senseless. I have no will to fire it. If the hoodlums want my stuff (unlikely, but IF) then they'll get it. And, as I said above...I really don't care one way or another...but I still would trust the guy carrying his gun openly more than the guy who hides it. You can just chalk that one down to a personal experience.

I seriously doubt that this is true. Unless you're in a position of frequent danger, such as carrying large deposits to the bank, running a liquor store, etc., I doubt that you will ever be confronted by a situation that requires use of a gun. Just look at the number of police officers who have never fired their weapon at a criminal. I think the most likely result is some cowboy taking the life of a person or causing injury to others when it wasn't necessary.
