:fire: Owensboro is going to be in the game, mark it down.

It seems as though we've been marking it down for quite some time now. For now, Owensboro just needs to get out of the second round.

Dixie will be very senior oriented, and a serious contender this year.

Do you know how many senior's are on the team? I have heard over 20.

No, actually they need to get out of the first round, but what I hear is that there are going to be some changes made on offense and that's all Owensboro really needed. They've always had more offensive players, but never really used them. I'm looking for big things out of Owensboro this year, but I understand there are folks out there that need to be shown--because I am one of them--like the old saying "I'm from Missouri; you've got to show me".

I would say give or take 20+ seniors on that team, this is the year Dixie has been waiting for.

Lol, I was gettin at the point of a break out season, but that works to:sssh: , in a reality though i think the get by the blue colonels this year, not so sure abut the bluebirds, All should take care of my eagles rather easily.

Dixie cannot afford another bad start to the season this year (Beechwood, Simon Kenton, CovCath and Highlands first 4 wks). Cannot use the excuse of not having a decent field to prepare on during the summer. They now have one of the nicest facilities in N.Ky. with updated weight training equipment. They ALL must stay focused as one unit with a single goal and not go off in different directions as I witnessed last year. Good teams go hard for 4 quarters not just a half. I would just hate to see a team with the talent the Colonels have underachieve again.

I don't think the coaches will let that happen this year ! From QB to DB , there's someone ready to step in ! I can also see alot of one way players this year . Your right on with this TEAM needs to stay focused as one unit , with one single goal ! Take one snap at a time , one game at a time and don't let up ! DIXIE PRIDE !!!!!!!:fire:

I agree with you but it has been the mentality over the years to do so. Each year I hope for better but have disappointed at the start of the year thus far. I have been around Dixie football longer than most and have seen alot of changes take place over the years so I am not without hope. What it all comes down to is the kids. The coaches can only take them so far IMO. The kids have to realize that competing is not enough. To win it all you have to commit to work and train at a different level. The road to a state championship begins the day after the previous years football season ends. You can't expect to start working hard in July and beat teams like CCH and HHS. It ain't going to happen.

I think overall 5A football may be the most wide open classification. I think it will be the most competitive. I see about 20-30 teams that could be considered top 10 material.

Only if your talking about the bottom of the top ten IMO. There is a decent gap betweeen the usuall suspects and the rest.

5A is certainly the most competative class, in my opinion. Unlike 6A where you can pretty much predict the top three, 5A is open and competative. Isn't that what football is all about?:dancingpa

I totally agree that 5A in Kentucky will be the most competitave class. There are several teams that right now, could really make an argument for being in the top 10. The Northern Kentucky teams will be strong like usual. And Western Kentucky looks to be heated as well.

Owensboro has a very good crop of seniors who really want to bring a football title back home to OHS. Neil Johnston and Blake Roberts are two linebackers who could start on anyones' team. Wayne Duncan and Josh Hayden look to hold down the secondary, so look for points to be hard to come by on the Red Devils "D" this season. On offense OHS has speed to burn. Look for Junior Yorell Shemwell to fill in at RB and not miss a beat for graduated Nick Hall. Shemwell might not be a tough (yet) he is more elusive and has better speed. But in order for OHS to get over the hump and win state, they are going to have to get better production out of the QB. The o-line looks to be solid for OHS, but there are questions on the defensive line for the Red Devils. Also look for the emergence of sophomore Marcus Winstead. He is a true speedster(and cousin of NY Jets star Justin Miller) and if the gets in the clear, teams won't catch him.

Thats who I know most know about. I've heard BG, Christian County, Warren Central, Hopkinsville, are good out of the west. And I assume Highlands, Dixie, and Cov Cath will be good out of the north. Also John Hardin will field a very good team and they were sophomore heavy last year. Looks to be a war for the 5A title this year!

I said the exact same thing earlier in this thread. Guess you can't be from the Owensboro area either. ;) Don't you know Hall is in a different league. :sssh:

5A looks to be a class that is loaded with good teams and solid districts. Its hard to put together a complete Top Ten not knowing what everyone returns from last season. District 5 is definately the most competitive district with Highlands, CCH, and Dixie Heights with all the being 3 of the best teams in this class. My top ten would look something like this:

1.) Highlands- a hungry bunch of BlueBirds isnt good for this class and of course for pure tradition

2.) CCH- lost alot of talent but where state-champs in 3A last season.

3.) Bowling Green- always loaded with the talent, but seem to fall short when it counts.

4.) Johnson Central- had its best season last year in school history and with nearly all its talent returning, could sneak up on some ppl this year.

5.) Dixie Heights- has nearly all its players back, but could be a tough task to make it through that district.

6.) Mercer County- even though they won state, they played 2A with a 5A enrollment, lets see what they do with teams their own size.

7.) Owensboro- returns alot from last year. Could take some by surprise this year.

8.) Warren Central- solid team that has to come out of a tough district. Could this be the year the take BG?

9.) Southwestern- a solid team year in and year out that many seem to forget about.

10.) Hopkinsville- tough team from the west.
