My condolences to the family of the Chief.

 

I do have one question though...was there not a pat down performed on the individual in custody before he was placed in the back of the cruiser?

Chief Lacy pulled me over on the Mtn Pkway for exceeding the speed limit last year. A very nice fellow. Just last night my wife and I spoke with a classmate from high school who was the sister of Deputy Briscoe from Powell County who was gunned down 15 years ago and Chief Lacy was on the scene then. No one knows how dangerous the work is for these fine gentlemen except the police officers themselves.

This is terrible news. My heart goes out to Chief Lacy's family and friends. I have a lot of friends in Powell County and I know they are crushed by this tragedy. Powell also suffered from a similar tragedy in the early '90's when their sheriff and a deputy were killed by gunfire while in the line of duty.

Terrible tradegy. I know Chief Lacy brother, great family. Prayers and angels are with you.

This is just horrible. Prayers go out to Chief Lacy's family and friends. It's just not acceptable for this man to not get the death penalty. I don't care if he was under any influence whether it's drugs or alcohol. His decision to pull the trigger has already ended one life, and I think it should without hesitation end his as well.

Condolences to the family of Mr. Lacy. This is tragic, and I hope the criminal gets the most harsh sentence possible.

 

But the realist in me has to ask this question. Is there more cause for the death sentence when one kills a policeman? I only ask this because so many have made it clear that the death sentence is appropriate in this circumstance.

 

And beofre anyone gives me a hard time, I am a person who thinks any murder deemed anything other than self-defense deserves the same fate, but how how these murders are demmed self-defense is debatable, IMO.

I think anytime someone kills a cop they deserve the harshest punishment possible, that being the death penalty in KY. These guys put their life on the line daily and are the first line of defense for all of us.

 

They deserve the highest level of protection the law can provide them. And that includes the protection provided by threat of the death penalty for anyone who commits a crime like this.

 

Is killing a cop a worse crime than killing a regular citizen? Morally, no. But legally, yes, I think it should be.

That's the answer I was looking for, but I'm such an inhumane radical that I think the death penalty should be enforced more often than it is & it shouldn't take a crime of this nature to provoke its use.

I've always been on the fence about the death penalty but to me this is clear cut that he deserves to be "put down" if you will. I can't even fathom the type of person it would take to shoot an officer point blank in the back of the head like that. He absolutely disgusts me and I say good riddance.

Channel 18 Lexington interviewed Barnett at the jail today. He said he wished they would just take him out back and hang him, or something to that effect. He was sobbing during the interview.

This guy has had around 40 arrests since the early '90s!!!

 

The way the system works today is some people seem to try every way in the world to 'break into prison', but are continually released to commit more crimes. The judicial system is so soft that these renegades run around loose on society until a tragedy like this sometimes happens. This needs to change.

Nancy Grace just did a story on this and interviewed Chief Lacy's brother. They portrayed this chief as being an Andy Griffith type Sherriff. Good guy, gave criminals a break, bought them cigarettes, cuffed them in the front (got him killed this time), played Santa Claus at the killer's home last christmas. The guy was a repeat drunk offender and the chief knew him and cuffed him in the front. It was his death sentence.
