June 11, 200719 yr I think the biggest difference is that UK didn't seem to care when they played the basketball game (because it changes nothing but the date, it will still be on CBS) and Louisville wanted to keep the Football game where it would be on national tv.
June 11, 200719 yr I understand that if the b-ball game remained in December, it might NOT have been on national TV. So this is about money, just the like the football decision was, it has nothing to do with whether one team could beat the other. I would say this thread has a timer.
June 11, 200719 yr Seriously people, the game is still being played. Same goes for football. If you can't win a football game in week one and week eight, you don't deserve to win. If you can't win a basketball game in December and January, you don't deserve to win. Do something valuable with your time and follow the College World Series...GEEZ!!!
June 11, 200719 yr Here is the thing. When its all said and done the football game will be on national TV IMO. You have 2 QBs who are predicted by Mel Kiper to be in the top 10 in the draft. That right there will push it over the top and the game will be on TV. As for the basketball thing, it will be on national TV too regardless of when it is played. All the people getting mad at UK for changing, should also be mad at UL for changing. UL is doing it to be conventient for them just like Kentucky did in football.

That game should be played the week between Christmas and New Year's Day, like always. But the scheduling conflicts at Freedom Hall are not a surprise, and changing the date to accomodate those conflicts does nothing toward giving UofL a competitive advantage. I love Freedom Hall and have many, many wonderful memories from events there. But I can't wait for the new arena so that the Cards can actually get some home games in November and December.

There's always a big FFA convention every year around that time, as well as tractor/truck pulls, concerts, etc. It's not just Freedom Hall that's the problem, but the Fair/Expo Center as a whole. Late-November and December is always one of its busiest times of the year.

Basketball teams can always find a date ... games are played seven days a week, and teams don't need a week between games. Football has so many more limitations.

And as far as all those dates: They're all weekends. Can't really play UK-UofL on a weekday night and expect it to get its proper due from a national media standpoint. With the flea market and the gun/knife show falling on the traditional weekend for UK-UofL, there's your conflict. It's not like they could play the game earlier: UK's schedule is already locked up. So while those dates don't look like a lot, it's still a problem because you have to schedule around those dates while finding something that can accomodate UK's already-set schedule (IU and UNC are on the two preceding Saturdays on UK's schedule, if I'm not mistaken). Not as easy as it may seem.
