Michael Moore's "Sicko"

Featured Replies

I can't say I'm a big Michael Moore "fan", everything he talked about in 9/11 was public knowledge and he could have gone a step further and pointed out the United States being behind the 9/11 attacks.

You are going to have a majority of sheep in this country, the same ones that watch Fox News and feel like things really are fair and balanced. You are going to have people that watch his "films" and take them at face value and believe everything they are told. I honestly believe more than anything else, Michael Moore wants to start a conversation about whatever topic he is on to, just wants people to stop believing everything we are told by the corporate media and look into it yourself.

Yes, I know there are plenty of websites that pick apart each detail in his "films' and point out the lies. Fine, how about we pick apart everything that is reported on TV and News as "fact" and see who lies more. EVERYONE has an agenda of some kind. I applaud him for at least making an effort to point out the serious flaws we have in our system.

I still don't read anything into their posts that has to do with paying taxes or fees but more getting all the benefits and then complaining about the conditions.
That''s exactly it. :thumb:

Moore is a self-important loser.

So you nor 75Center ever complain about conditions of anything? I would like to hang out with you and never hear a negative word about working contions or paying taxes or any of that stuff. Since you reap the benefits of living in the country I assume you never complained about Bill Clinton or Hillary or the current or previous state government.

Hello Polly, meet Anna

You're so off base I don't even know where to begin!

First of all, you don't (and can't) know where I fall on the political spectrum; so I'll thank you not to make a weak attempt to pigeon-hole me into a convenient category for your rhetorical purposes.

Secondly, your analogies fail to hold water. Raising real concerns in a constructive and positive manner Is one thing. Falsifying information, twisting facts, and engaging in blatant self-aggrandizement at the expense of missing a real chance to raise the public consciousness, is quite another.

I think we could all do with a lot less Moore.

So as not to pigeon hole I said both the current and former state governors. The point being - if I am living as a responsible citizen I have a right to complain and work to make changes.

Why doesn't Michael Moore have the right to do that. He sees the current HealthCare system as broken and he points out, that a communist government takes better care of the people who worked in the aftermath of 9/11 than does our government.

Attack his points, but don't say he is a spoiled child b/c he makes them.

If I am a responsible citizen, I work for reforms in an honest and dignified way.

Then attack his points where you find falsehoods. Don't call him a mooch who lives off his parents and then complains to them. It is a poor analogy.

Not sure how to respond as I was merely telling you how I understood another members posts. I guess since my understanding differs from yours you feel it necessary to try to pigeonhole me?

Again, I think you're taking that analogy too far. Fastbreak was making the point that Moore is like a spoiled child because he (inappropriately) tears down that which he is privileged to have.

I don't see Moore as tearing down anything. I feel he may use exploitative measures to bring issues to the attention of the American public. But, I don't think everything he says or does is a lie. He's a bit over the top for my taste, but I also realize that we live in America where we have the right to criticize our government, political leaders, just about anyone. He's also taken advantage of his rights to free speech, freedome from oppression and the pursuit of happiness. Not to mention, he's completely taken advantage of living in a capatilistic society where making money, no matter what the means, is more important that the quality of your product. :D

Moore is a Liberal hack. I have no problem seeing both sides of the story, the problem with Moore is that he goes out of his way to only show one side in his "Documentaries". In 9/11 he miscut comments from soldiers and citizens to make it look like they agreed with his point of view. He has a history of being very skewed in the way he goes about showing what he thinks is the truth and has been caught in the past making up "facts".

To be fair, most media do this to at least some extent. They either leave out quotes or selectively quote people all the time. Moore's no different, IMO, except one pays the price of a theater ticket to see his media, and most of us just sit on the couch and soak it up on our TV's from other media.

You are right most media does do this, that does not make it right. I just think that when someone makes a documentary or writes a book the public gives it more merit as fact than it deserves.
