May 14, 200719 yr So my question is, if it's not UK fans sending the messages, who is it? I think we all agree(most of us) that is is most likely UK fans but the point of the matter is this rule needs to be changed for the simple fact it COULD be anyone doing this.
May 14, 200719 yr Author It has only been an issue with UK because their anal compliance office felt the need to respond. Find a hot commodity out west in hoops... Go find a top notch Florida recruit in football and you will see their sites litterd with messages from fans. Give me a break. It was an issue this time because an AAU coach mentioned it. And you were first in line to question his motives. You are doing all you can to deflect this away from what it is...
May 14, 200719 yr If I was a star basketball player who didn't want to be contacted by fans, I wouldn't make a myspace... That's just me though.
May 14, 200719 yr I was at a UK football game a couple years ago and Brandan Wright was there with the current players. Come halftime they were standing out on the corridor and I could see that all the players, as well as Wright, were being bombarded with people asking for autographs and pictures. No doubt some people asked Wright if he was coming to UK. Was this illegal? What's to stop someone seeing a recruit at a grocery store and going up to him and trying to coax him to one school or another? The NCAA can put limits on what coaches can or can't do in regards to recruits, but there is NO WAY they can police the fans, too. That's infringing on First Amendment rights.
May 14, 200719 yr Author But then would have come to UK if BCG would have asked him to. Non-issue.

I guess universities could try to implement something to stop their fans from doing this, but not every fan is a season ticket holder and I would assume a lot of people use fake names and handles when posting these messages.
May 14, 200719 yr Whatever! Coach is being dramatic! If a person can be influenced that greatly by people he does not know then could a booster turn them bad?
May 14, 200719 yr Author Why keep looking at "what if's" and not what is? Sure all of those things can hypothetically be a result. That's far from the issue at hand...
May 14, 200719 yr If I was a star basketball player who didn't want to be contacted by fans, I wouldn't make a myspace... That's just me though. So because fans don't know how to act, they should delete their Myspace pages that more than likely were created far before they were ever being recruited?
May 14, 200719 yr Why keep looking at "what if's" and not what is? Sure all of those things can hypothetically be a result. That's far from the issue at hand... What do you think should be done? I just don't see anyway to "police" this, so to speak.
May 14, 200719 yr Why keep looking at "what if's" and not what is? Sure all of those things can hypothetically be a result. That's far from the issue at hand... So a guy who lives in New Mexico who is an avid UK fan sends Hamga a message online trying to persuade him to come to UK. He has no affiliation with the university, Hamga or the NCAAs. How in the world could someone tell him he wasn't allowed to do that anymore? No freedom of speech?
May 14, 200719 yr Why keep looking at "what if's" and not what is? Sure all of those things can hypothetically be a result. That's far from the issue at hand... That's the problem with a lot of the UK fan base. It's alway if we got him or if we hit that shot or IF Pitino didn't leave. Now I guess it's IF we leave enough messages on his myspace he'll sigh with UK. IF you come here, you'll be a rock star:rolleyes:
May 14, 200719 yr So because fans don't know how to act, they should delete their Myspace pages that more than likely were created far before they were ever being recruited? It can be made private.

We all know some of the UK fanbase is nuts, but you can't physically stop them from doing these types of things. The NCAA will never act on this because there is no way to police this kind of thing from happening. In this day and age, the internet plays a huge role in the recruiting process. This is definitely one of the negative things that comes with it, but I just don't understand what you all think can be done to stop it.
May 14, 200719 yr It can be made private. That still doesn't stop the ability for people to message them...
