I like the move to wooden bats, I was at dicks the other day and they had some good wooden bats for 30 dollers. That is not bad when you compare a metal bat at 120 that is four wood that should get you through a season. (just don't swing at anything inside)ha ha.

:laugh: Define "true baseball players". I met quite a few that liked them and quite a few that don't. But labelling them as a ballplayer or not is ridiculous.

Are these going to be the same parents of kids who go on to college and be successful than get drafted and are flops because they've never used a wood bat before? IMO, NY high school baseball will move up in caliber of play and overall talent because of this...

Yes...I believe the only time they use metal is when they play outside their conference.

 

Northern Kentucky University is in the Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC). The GLVC is a wood bat league. They are the only NCAA wood bat league left in the US. Years ago when everyone else was going to metal bats, the GLVC opted to stay a wood bat league to protect their players from injury.

 

The Bellarmine University - KNIGHTS are in the GLVC. The Knights were tied for first place in the league earlier this week.

There is a wood bat company that could explode if more schools and conferences were to use their bats (ok I know I sound like a salesman but I am not).

 

Baum Bats are the greatest wood bats out there. They never break and I am not joking. Last year one of my players was being recruited by Indian Hills Community College in Iowa and they use the Baum Bats during batting practice. My team looked into it and bought two. Every one of my players used them during BP and we still have our original two bats. They have yet to break or flake away.

 

They are more expensive than a regular wooden bat - go for around $125 per bat but they last for a VERY long time.

 

My team played in a wood bat tournament this year that provided three bats for the tournament. My guys never used those bats at all - they used the Baum Bats we bought last year. We bought the original two bats last year and are still using them today.

I disagree, if you can hit with wood you can mash with metal. Any college would see this. Great advantage to learn to hit early with wood. Most young high draft choices have to go to rookie ball to learn to hit with wood also.

I think he is just saying the numbers would take a hit and not look as good on their stat sheet for colleges to see. It would howerver, help them in the long run. I would like to see high school and colleges go to wood bats. When we used them for BP in summer ball I loved them and believe it helped me for the games.

College coaches look at summer ball WAY more than high school ball in most states. When these kids go on trips with their summer teams and absolutely mash because they've used wood bats all year within city limits, they'll benefit from it.

 

Not many college coaches find recruits by reading the stats listed in the newspaper...is all I'm saying...

You're right. Its much easier for scouts to go to high-level summer league games and watch several prospects play than spend a whole evening going to and from a ballpark to watch a kid hit three times and make two plays in the field.

That's true, didn't think about that. In the end, this will work out better for the NY kids. Hopefully the other states will follow in line.
