I'm sorry but a dollar difference in price per gallon isn't something I'm going to get worked up about. If they were charging $5 a gallon then maybe it would be an issue to me, but as of now it's just not something I worry about.

 

But the increased price for crude oil due to increased demand and other foactors doesn't just effect the price of gas. That's the whole point...the everyday cost of living is heavily influenced by oil prices. The oil industry touches consumers through thousands of products such as gasoline, diesel, jet fuel, heating oil, asphalt, lubricants, synthetic rubber, plastics, fertilizers, antifreeze, pesticides, pharmaceuticals, natural gas and propane. It's not just about a one dollar change in the price of a gallon of gas.

I understand that, but it isn't affecting the prices to the point that it's putting a strain on my spending or my everyday living, and until it does, I prefer not to worry about it.

Looks like I missed lots of people getting their feelings hurt over a half-joking suggestion, just how I like it.

We in America will always drive the biggest, baddest, fastest gas guzzling vehicles we can afford. People on fixed incomes or lower incomes tend to buy the smaller more economical vehicles and the rest of the population will always demand something bigger and less fuel efficient.

 

Just look at all the millions of dudes driving big, gaudy, gas guzzling pickup trucks who have absolutely no NEED for them. How many years have we heard Americans are going to the smaller cars and the electric cars and everything in between and it never happens? The worst thing about driving a compact vehicle or a standard size passenger car is that you can't see around the SUV or truck ahead of you because of their size. You might as well get use to it and adjust accordingly.

How about for every SUV driver out there have another person buy a hybrid? That will equal out the gas guzzling SUV's out there.

 

That wouldn't be very fair now would it?

 

How about instead of pointing fingers at the SUV owners why don't we mandate carpooling. How about going back to gas rationing stamps?

 

Myself I drive one of those gas guzzling SUV's and i would not have anything else. I don't complain about gas prices while I drive over 2000 miles per month for work. I can comfortably haul myself, my wife and all 3 of my children. I can haul all of my work stuff and golf clubs and can hook to a trailer and pull it anywhere I want. Talk about a multi purpose vehicle. If I didn't own this then I would have to have a car to haul my kids and a truck to haul trailers and my work stuff.

 

How about mandating one car per person and that will stop people from having multiple cars and using more gas? How about more people using the bus or other forms of mass transit?

 

I am not trying to start a fight I am just throwing out many more sides to the gas argument.

How is owning multiple cars going to cause you to use more gas? You could own a 100 cars but you can only drive one at a time.

I think that there are more reasonable ways to get gasoline prices to come down. Here are a few.

 

1. Make sure that you don't have to make multiple trips to run errands such as grocery buying, going to the bank, dropping of dry cleaning, etc.

 

2. Car pool when it's possible with friends. This is also a great way to enjoy their company while driving to a movie or a restaurant.

 

3. Car pool to work, if that is possible. Take turns driving each week, if your schedules work out so that it is convenient.

 

4. Keep your tires inflated properly and rotated.

 

5. Don't jack - rabbit start and stop your vehicle.

 

These are just a few of the things that I have either heard or read in the last couple of years.

 

Feel free to add to the list, especially if you have a really good suggestion that would help everyone save a few dollars here and there!

I've had a SUV and loved it. Then I got a Corvette and loved it too. Now I have a small ride that gets over 30 miles to a gallon of gas and love it too...the fact of the matter is no matter what you drive you are going to be paying alot for gas. :irked: So I think if one day was picked out for the month of May and no one buy gas it might make a statement. Just a thought but IMO worth a try. I'd certainly do it.

True but it would be a start. Possibly 1 day a month for a year? As long as we keep buying gas they are going to keep jacking up the price of gas --ahh supply & demand. What really irritates:mad: me about the whole process is the CEO's of oil companies making those million/billion dollar bonuses all the while Joe and Jane Average scrimp to make ends meet!! :cry:

It couldn't be broken up like that it would HAVE to be a consistent long term thing. One day a month wouldn't it. They would make it up on the other days. It would have to be a concerted boycott until they start running such an inventory as to have no choice but to drop prices drastically.

Of course that will be AFTER thousands are laid off and out of jobs. And then you have all the resulting effects of those being out of a job.

The sad thing is, anything that we do to reduce oil prices through less consumption will only be eaten up by the Asian behemoths. We can't stop rising prices, but we can reduce our use of petroleum products to some extent.

I know a guy who is having the kit put in his ride to make it run on used vegetable oil. He has a new Chevy 2500. I know you have to drive a vehicle with a diesel engine to be able to do this. It sounds like a pretty sweet deal. Anyone else know anyone who has this ?
