I would imagine this has been debated on BGP before. What's everyone's stance on making marijuana a legal drug ?

When I was about 9, I asked my uncle if I could run the errands with him. We went up in the mountains outside of Woodbine to a trailer that was a bootlegger. THE illegal bootlegger had a drive thru. Hilarious.

 

And back to my argument of more people have died on a yearly basis because of alcohol SINCE prohibition was repealed than died during prohibition from alcohol.

 

That argument is flawed, advancement in technology, faster cars, media advertising. Two different era's of life.

Britain's most senior coroner is warning that hundreds of young people are dying in accidents caused by their prolonged use of cannabis.

Hamish Turner, the president of the Coroners' Society, said that the drug, which is often portrayed as harmless, has increasingly been behind deaths that have been recorded as accidents or suicides.

In the past year, he estimated that cannabis was a significant contributory factor in about 10 per cent of the 100 cases that he had dealt with in south Devon, where he works.

I probably wouldn't make it legal, but I would certainly decriminalize it and stop wasting time and resources fighting a losing battle with something as trival as pot.

Can you link that cause I have a friend that thinks there are no bad side effects to pot.

 

 

There was an article in re the study on the Fox News website yesterday.

Within limits,yes.. I believe that people on chemotherapy who have become refractive to the conventional anti nausea compounds (Phenergan,Zofran,Compazine...etc),should be allowed it's use without fear of breaking the law...a few years back,one company actually was allowed to produce an oral product,Dronabinol,but I'm not sure how effective it was or if it is still made..I have had people tell me that smoking it has the best effect...It's use in some forms of Glaucoma have also been studied. IMHO,if someone who is terminally ill gets an extension on normal day to day living my using it,they should be allowed to!!

Interesting study recently released out of London stating that one of the ingredients in pot causes some people to become paranoid and have psychotic delusions. They also tested it on people who are schizophrenics and found it made their condition much, much worse (they had expected the results to be just the opposite due to the alleged "calming" effect of pot). According to the report, the study was prematurely stopped because continuing the study would have been unethical due to the reaction being so bad.

No. And as for the rationale that we should legalize it so we don't have to pay to imprison those who use it, I believe that with all criminals that we have to place in jail, we should garnish the wages that they earn once they leave jail to reimburse society for the prison costs. If they don't repay the costs, they are not entitled to one red cent of any federal, state or local entitlements ever. Paying their debt to society should mean much more than just serving their time.

1. Marijuana is not as widely available as it used to be. Accessible, but not everywhere. Alcohol is far, far easier to get.

 

2. There is a large number of people (IMO) that would do it if not for the law breaking. Not saying everyone, but more people.

What about the position of the high taxes on it to regulate and make money off of it. I think those who are growing it on their own continue to do so and sell it taxfree.

Seriously, I'm strongly against legalizing it although I think it should be decriminalized to the point of it being the equivalent of jaywalking. I hate to see a young person's record blemished for a trivial mistake.

I have mixed feelings about it. I can see the good points about legalizing it, but something just doesn't feel right about it.

 

 

Same here. I can see the benefits...but I'm not sure it would be all good..
