It would be interesting to see the devastating effects that alcohol has had since the politicians caved and repealed Prohibition.

I would hazard a guess that we have seen many more people killed through alcohol on a yearly basis than was killed on a yearly basis during Prohibition.

There is another reason for that fact. We have decided that speed and fuel efficiency is more important than human life. There could be a governor placed on every vehicle that would not allow it to go over 20. What do you think this would do to highway fatalities. Instead, we have decided that losing lives every year is worth speedy transportation. I think this would have a much greater affect on highway fatalities than outlawing alchohol, however, I hope neither happen.

When I was about 9, I asked my uncle if I could run the errands with him. We went up in the mountains outside of Woodbine to a trailer that was a bootlegger. THE illegal bootlegger had a drive thru. Hilarious.

 

And back to my argument of more people have died on a yearly basis because of alcohol SINCE prohibition was repealed than died during prohibition from alcohol.

Do you really feel there are people that would like to smoke marijuana that can't get it now? I don't. You want to make smoking it in public illegal? I'd be fine with that -- I don't want my son getting a contact high in a poorly ventilated establishment.

The financial impact, wouldn't outweigh the negatives, in my opinion.

If your not against the outlawing of alchohol, you need to rexamine what occurred the last time we tried it coach. We can't afford to create even more black markets than already exist. Also, lets look at drug use. Is it not easier for a teenager to aquire drugs on the black market than it is for them to aquire alchohol, which requires a fake or someone to buy it for you?

You make a very good point about it being easier to get some pot than to get a case of beer. Thats very true. Marijuana was (and I assume still is) all over the place when I was young. I could get some pot in a matter of minutes if I really wanted to, if I wanted some beer, it was going to take a while and I needed someone who was 21.

...and if legal, they will still be selling it on the street cheaper, just to make a buck, to our youth and anyone else, with a few dollars. If the consensus is tax revenue, then I think many of us, have lost perspective and ramifications, of legalizing this hallucinogenic.

 

As for selling beer on the street, never implied but just look a the number of drunk driving statistics, to get concerned. Legalizing it, would put even more teens/adults, behind the wheel of a vehicle, waiting for an accident to happen.

We havent done well. I really believe that it is harder to get a case of beer as a minor than it would be for them to get a joint though. By making something illegal the consequences for buying the substances are higher but the availability of the substance is also higher.The problem with youth getting alcohol and cigarettes is on the shoulders of "adults" who are willing to buy it for them. From my experiences it's really hard to get alcohol if you are a minor. Most liquor or beer stores are pretty strict on checking ID's. Maybe the consequences for contributing to minors should be much more strict.
