April 10, 200719 yr Ii KY had better plays we would be getting them. Thats how I look at it... If the kentucky player arent elite we shouldnt go after them.
April 10, 200719 yr Why is lofton a mistake? Lofton in high school was not an SEC standout caliber kid. He just blossomed. That one was not Tubby's fault. Nobody knew that he was going to be as good as he was, not even him.
April 10, 200719 yr If Sheray Thomas earned minutes as a Wildcat, then Neltner definetly would have played. IMO the Wildcats are much better team with Neltner, Doelman, and Lofton playing together for UK. Bobby Perry started for UK, I know Ross would have played. He avg. 10 pts a game in the same SEC that UK plays in. I don't get why people underestimate how much Ross has improved. Had he gone to UK, I'm not sure that he would have improved as much as daily practices against Herrera, Bass, and Big Baby improved him. However, he still would have played.
April 10, 200719 yr That's true Chris Lofton seems to be the only one that got away, I don't see Ross Neltner being anything more than a Heissenbuttel, Carrier, or Stocton. Kentucky seemed to regularly get the Mr. Basketball and they just sat on the bench. If Kentucky produced better players in the past I believe Tubby would have got them. I really disagree with you on Neltner he seemed to do alot of good things for Vandy that the cats needed IMO, he would have been a plus a much bigger, stronger player than the others who IMO were not D-1 material.
April 10, 200719 yr Observation for TBers: you want those who supported Tubby to drop it, then drop the bashing. As has been said and very wisely, Billy G is the UK coach, let's concentrate on that instead of attacks on the previous coaches. Or we can start thread after thread attacking Rupp for not doing enough in his last 15 years and being a racist. Hall for his slow style of play. Sutton for all the Sutton stuff. Pitino for running out on the UK program. And Tubby for not having a high quality staff, missing out in recruiting and style of play. I would prefer to move on and concentrate on Billy G and the future.
April 10, 200719 yr Neltner was/is a better player then Orbzut and Thomas without a doubt. We are often soft inside and Neltner's presence would have been helpful. He's got strength with his height. Tubby recruits height with no strength. Orbzut had no command. Alleyne was ridiculous. I like Jared Carter.....maybe he can recoup and add MUSCLE to our team.

Nobody knew that he was going to be as good as he was, not even him. If tubby would have even given lofton a chance he would have seen that he is a great shooter at the least, something that UK desperately needed last year. Tubby even saw that shot from nearly half court to send Mason into overtime with Lexington Catholic, and he didn't even pay attention to that.

So you offer a scholarship to a kid for making a half court shot? Get real. Tubby got burned time after time with Kentucky kids. He had a chance to put together a great recruiting class and he did just that. It's real easy to look back now and say Lofton would have been a better pick then Crawford or Bradley is easy. Maybe Tubby should have gotten a crystal ball.

April 10, 200719 yr when was there a good recruiting class? cuz i sure can't remember one.... The 04er class ended up being one of the best if not the best in the country. Just because they didn't live up to expectations doesn't take away from how good the recruiting class was.
April 10, 200719 yr Hey guys we can dwell in the past all day, but I for one am excited about the future. Its exciting to think about some of the great in state players we could possibly get to come to UK Stephon Pettigrew Matt Walls Darius Miller Bud Mackey (committed not signed) Scott Hopson (committed not signed) (Im not sold on him though) Jacob Jenkins The young Rose Hill boys

His junior year he couldnt be stopped and nothing changed his senior year. I agree looking back Bradley and Crawford had the better potential but Lofton did stand out in High School basketball no matter the competition. And that shot was a great one even though I agree that should have nothing to do with recruiting except maybe a "clutch factor" added onto the list.
