April 6, 200719 yr Was "Plan B" actually plan A? Did Barnhart somehow lead everyone to believe that Donovan was the coach we were going after just to satisfy the UK fan base? Now Barnhart can say "I tried but he just didn't want to leave where he is at". Now Barnhart can go after the person he wanted anyway and hoping that the fans would jump on board. Donovan's part in this? A favor to Barnhart in some way and BD just went along with it, which I still believe he is telling the truth that he loves the area and the program, as well as a sweeter deal from Florida. Then again, Donovan may not have had a clue what Barnhart was up to. This all could have been Barnhart's plan all along. Thoughts?
April 6, 200719 yr Not sure MB would risk his job, or reputation. But who the hell knows? Can we say that?
April 6, 200719 yr YES !!! I said this on another thread. He had to satisfy the fans first, now he can go after who ever he wants.
April 6, 200719 yr Apparently we can say that. He's thrown it around all night on different threads. What if Pitino said "I'm not interested", told Donovan, secretly, that the job was no good, but by waiting, ran the salary up, Donovan says NO, then he (RP) has a change of heart and becomes interested, at the new price, of course? As good as any of these other conspiracy theories out there!

Then he was able to hire his target all along.... Brooksie. If you are correct we should start checking out the shuffle board games at the retirement homes to find out who the next UK coach might be.
April 6, 200719 yr Jerry Green's footsteps can be heard approaching Rupp Arena at this very moment....
April 6, 200719 yr More ridiculous conspiracy theories. If anything, Donovan used UK to get even more money from UF, where he wanted to stay all along, IMHO. And I don't have a problem with someone finding their worth in the market place, and getting it.
April 6, 200719 yr Billy Donovan was the coach we were going after. Is there any doubt he was our #1 choice? Why would he not be anyone's first choice? He is/has: 1. Young and energetic 2. A great recruiter 3. Outstanding communicator 4. Solid in the community 5. A great coach (two straight national titles) 6. Clean record with the NCAA 7. Past history at the University of Kentucky If we are the number 1 program in the country, Billy Donovan is the number 1 coaching prospect for Kentucky. I don't see any trick up Mitch Barnhart's sleeve that he wouldn't go after Billy as you might insinuate.
April 6, 200719 yr Author YES !!! I said this on another thread. He had to satisfy the fans first, now he can go after who ever he wants. I thought I read that somewhere on here. Good theory.

Coincidently, with the methodical progress Rich has made with the probation riddled team he inherited, Mitch is looking pretty good right now! You can be critical of Rich Brooks in many ways, but you can't take away the fact he does know football.
