Go to Billy the Kid and make him an offer he can't refuse. Great coach, Great person. Don't even talk to anyone else until after the Championship game is over, after it is over call Billy and no one else. Don't play around with any wanna be's. Take it from a guy who has seen some "coaching searches".

 

Now the only reason he might not come is because the Gators are in the same division.

Florida has the money to match or ever pay more than Uk does, better weather, better recruits in that state, or just for the fact that it is a better job now...

I found out about this very suprising news while sitting in class. I was in shock when I heard it and was unable to concentrate in my last two classes of the day. I think this may be the best for both parties involved here, however I am very convinced Tubby would have got us back on the right path. However I do wish him the best of luck at Minnesota (my 2nd favorite team now).

One thing I dont understand is why he left to go to Minnesota. IMO he could have got alot better of a job than that. I guess maybe he just wanted to get away from a place that has crazy fans like we do here...

I can tell you partly why...you get on the rivals board at 4 pm today and there were 11K UK online. You switch to Minnesota's board and they set a record with 671 online!

 

Also, he can make a million dollars, only recruit in state and like in Indiana and will win like 15-20 games a year!

Three things I'm wondering about.

 

1.) With Tubby gone, how long until the speculation thread begins about Chris Lofton transferring to UK.

 

2.) Why no 'Sean Sutton to UK?' threads?

 

3.) If you took a team of Joe Hall recruiting busts, Rick Pitino recruiting busts, and Tubby Smith recruiting busts, would any team reach 20 points in a game played between them?

What's left to say that hasn't already been said? This is something I was prepared for... But I wasn't prepared for it this year.

 

I expected another year or two of Tubby, and then a resignation... What a great job of keeping this hush hush. So it's needless to say that I, like most of you, was in an utter state of shock when I heard the news.

 

On here I have been called a Tubby lover for a long time and my support of the team has for some reason been questioned as a result of this, and while it's true that I thought Tubby was probably the best guy for the job at UK the past couple of seasons (I quite frankly don't think that they could've done better before) I too agree that this is the best for both parties involved.

 

Anyone who does not think this is a setback is crazy, though. UK will most definitely struggle next year and quite possibly until the current freshmen graduate before they really start to look good again... Depending on who comes back, I'm not going to rule out a trip back to the NCAA tournament next year. I'll be interested to see what Morris decides... I expect him to leave, but he might stay with the right coach... Maybe someone who will work hard with him to better his low post D, and try to showcase his ability next year to make a little more cash... Improbable, but not impossible.

 

I look for Jodie Meeks to stay... He is going to be "the guy" and he knows it... A kid who loves the game as much as him, IMO, is not going to sit out a year.

 

I want UK to hire Billy Donovan or Billy Gillispie... But I think the most realistic options at this point are Gillespie and Tom Crean. While I'll support any hire other than maybe Travis Ford (I think that would be an absolutely digusting hire at this point in his career) Gillispie is by far my front runner.. He's a guy I don't see running to the NBA at the first chance he gets and, unlike Tubby (pains me to say), gets the absolute most out of his players. He has an excellent pipeline to recruit with, and I think if anyone has the ability to pull UK out of "mediocrity" (for lack of a beter word) he would be the guy.

 

After I heard the news today at about 5:00 -- You don't hear these breaking stories as they happen while you're at work -- I called my girlfriend to see what she'd heard... Her response to me was simply "And how do we feel about this?" At the time I wasn't 100% sure, and I'm still not.. But I think UK has a really good shot to make a great hire and put the program back on the map. My allegiance will not be tested...

 

As long as Tubby is happy with this decision, I'm happy... Go UK ,and go Gophers!

Tubby was talking to MN, 6 weeks ago... not sold on him really caring about Patterson or Lucas or anything at this point. It was VERY odd when he shook Self's hand with a greatful smile.
