March 22, 200719 yr What Tubby did was best for him and the University of Kentucky. This situation would have been twice as bad if he were here for another year. Now it will be 4 times as bad. This is going to set UK back a good amount unless they get a big name coach and get him fast.

March 22, 200719 yr All jokes aside I think this will ultimately be the first step in getting Kentucky basketball back to where it belongs. Two seasons as an eight seed, finishing the season not in the top 25, no signed top 50 recruits. Tubby had reached his peak in Lexington and was quikcly on the way down, a fresh start for him is not only good for himself but the program IMO. He is a great guy and I actually wish him the best, but honestly I think this is a blessing in disquise, and all though next year may be rocky, Kentucky will once again return to prominence.

Basically anyone who can recruit in the least will be an upgrade. Anyone who will not let their pride keep them from keeping solid/knowledgable assistants on the bench will be an upgrade. Don't get me wrong, Tubby is a good guy, and a good coach, but its apparent he wasn't right for Kentucky. However, I feel there is 10+ who are.

We have already seen what one poor recruting class does to a program(see this year's senior class at UK). Tubby leaving pretty much ends any opportunity of a good class coming in next season. I think you are deluding yourself if you think it is going to be a one year turn around. I would say you can expect at least 2 years possibly 3 of teams not any better than these past 2(not to mention UK might lose some of the current freshman class, to transfer with Smith leaving. It is a good freshman class with Meeks and Jasper showing some good potential, but it is far from great).
