Interesting scenario shaping up here. When I found out that Montgomery was indeed a large school, I researched their schedule over the last 10 years to find that something like 100 out of 194 wins were against Augusta, Bath, Berea, Bracken, Burgin, Deming, Estill, KSD, Lee, Menifee, MMI, Model, Nicholas, Powell, Sayre, St. Patrick, etc. Will the new AD continue with the scheduling trend that was established while he was the coach, or will he upgrade the schedule to one that better reflects the size of the school and the new gymnasium? And, if he chooses the latter, will he be viewed as imposing expectations upon his successor that he did not impose upon himself? Very difficult situation. Congratulations to the coach and best of luck as AD.

If this 10 year record is correct the schedule is weak. Looking at this years schedule it does not appear that weak.

Those numbers are not really indicative of what type of career he has had a Montgomery Co. Here is why:

 

Every Coach schedules himself 6 or so shoe in wins if they can and 6 a year for 10 years is 60 of those 100 wins you are talking about.

 

Then you have years where all of those schools are not so bad and while traditionally they may not be strong, scheduling them in a particular year may not be a bad thing if it makes for a competitive game.

 

Montgomery Co. has not always been a 1200 kid school There were times when he too was a smaller (not smaller) but small/med school.

 

Montgomery Co. for the past few years has been a younger talented team. This year with seniors coming up they have been relieved of contract restraints and are able to "beef up" the schedule some which he has already done before his announced retirement I understand.

 

I think that the old ball coach will be realistic in his expectations on the successor of the program. He will want them to win the games he is supposed to be close in all others win some/lose some. I dont think he will anticipate the next coach to win 500 like he did, but I feel like the administration will seek someone who will be willing to make a long term committment to the program.

 

One of the many things I have learned from coach is this, "Continuity" and I think that he will expect that from his new coach.

Congrats to Coach Rison on a terrific career. I have seen his teams upset many at the Fiedhouse. I guess I am a little disappointed that he will miss coaching a regional tourney on his own home court.

I know of one current head coach that has interest in the job or he did a couple of months ago.

I'm not sure who will get the job though. There are a lot of young coaches out there that I think would do a great job at MC.

Same here jarhearme. I talked to Bart back in mid January and he hinted at this to me. Even openly said that he may go one more year and then stay on as softball coach as well as his current postion.

 

Hate to see him go. Always a class act both on and off the court. Just a great teacher of the game.

Coach Rison will be missed greatly im sure but what about coach wright from campbell possibly taking the Harrison County job heard alot of talk about that here at the tournament

that's Reitz... and it could happen... he coaches the boys and Kendall coaches the girls side with Whitakers retirement from the b-ball sidelines- That is if all of that happens.

What about Starns from JC..I'm sure he would like to return to the 10th region

What about Matthew Perry to replace him? Wasn't he up for the job at Johnson Central a couple of years ago? He would be a great hire there.
