Have you been to a football State Championship A, AA, AAA and seen the small crowds at the Pizza Box? Only the AAAA has any large crowds.....

Don't forget a couple of things...if you had 16 teams playing indoors in a championship format (in football)...the crowd would crush that of the Sweet 16...Football is King...basketball is a way to get to the nice weather.

Just a few observations:

 

1. How do so many on here KNOW what a majority of adult Indiana basketball fans think? Does anyone have proof, as in attendence numbers, etc.?

 

2. I know quite a few Indiana (and many other surrounding states) folks with HS age athletes, and never hear them complain about classed playoffs or watered down state championships. The only thing I ever hear is disbelief that KY still has single class hoops, but six class football with 250 teams??

 

3. Indiana HS basketball has owned KY basketball in recent years. Coincidence since they went to classes??

 

4. Take UHA (and their many "transfer" students) out of the public-private All "A" boys championship debate, and you'll find the numbers are more realistic!!

 

5. Anyone who thinks public schools don't "gain students from other schools, districts, counties, states, etc." more often than the private schools needs to see that guy about the bridge and swampland he has for sale!!

 

6. 90%+ of the schools who tip off practice on October 15th have virtually NO chance to win the state title under the current system!! Keep your head in the sand and keep referring to Paintsville, but if the "Hooisers' story" were such a common occurance, why would they make a movie about it?? Truth is for every Paintsville or Hickory High, there's thousands of KY high school teams, and tens of thousands of KY HS kids, who spend four years working their tails off believing in "Hoosiers"; and go away disappointed in the end, as "old basketball tech" heads to Rupp again!! Join the real world??

 

7. Would Beechwood, NewCath, CovCath, Highlands, Danville, Boyle County, etc., etc., etc. be celebrating their multiple state championship teams' tradition if KY were still clinging to the outdated notion of single class football??

Precisely! And very well said. The problem with 90% of the arguments against classification so far in this thread is that they are all based on opinion and hearsay rather than facts. Trinity hasn't won one is, so far, the only "fact" I can recall. Someone said football is king now and has taken over basketball, yet we have classes in football. Apparently basketball is perceived to be on the downturn as well as baseball and they DON'T have classes. Is there something there?

Maybe the reason why football is TAKING OVER BASKETBALL as some as offered as an opinion is that

 

MORE students have an opportunity to compete for regional and state champions in football than they do in basketball.

 

Maybe, just maybe, if basketball gave the SAME OPPORTUNITIES to their players as is done in football, you would not have that opinion.

 

Kids in Beechwood/NCC/Danville, etc. football know they have a realistic chance to win the state football championship. The basketball players don't have that same feeling.

Rockmom, if that is accurate, privates have won the last 6 girls state titles but prior to that privates had won only 2 of the previous 24 girls titles. Was there less "emphasis of girls sports in private grade schools (which) plays a huge role in their performance at the high school level" during the period from about 1984 through 2000? Or less support? Or both?

 

Actually, I think the reason that we did not see the domination of private schools in girls sports years ago was because there were not as many in existence and if they were in existence they did not offer sports. Back when I was in school not as many people went to private schools. But we are seeing more and more students go to private schools as the public education continues to go down.

Absolutely not because kids in public schools are not held accountable for the testing.

 

What I meant is that they saw the math portfolios and said, this is crap.

They saw the writing portfolio's in first draft and said this is crap.

They saw all the changes going on and said, I don't want my kid to have any part in this.

I simply want my kid to concentrate on learning and not on a test score for some politician.

And so they went the private school route where the focus is on student learning and not a test score.

Agree completely. That is why I am such a big fan of the ALL A tourmey. At least some of the smaller schools have a chance to win something. But why does it have to be such that the schools themselves have to put this tourbey on. There is absolutely NO reason the KHSAA doesn't sponser classes in basketball. As for the arguement that you would need Rupp Arena for two weeks, that is ridiculous. Just take 4 teams from 4 classes to the "Sweet16". you would have semi-state tourneys after the 16 region winners are determined at 4 different sites in the state. These 4 winners would advance to Rupp. It CAN be done, the KHSAA just doesn't want it.

Everything concerning basketball classes is based on opinion whether people are for or against them.

Kentucky basketball's "downturn" could have nothing to do with Indiana classification (not like KY wasn't getting whipped in All-Star before IND classification, and KY girls are getting whipped like the boys) and it could have nothing to do with the "rise" of Football (it might be due to video games/Internet) but the bottom line no matter what it is the schools and only the schools who can institute a class system in any sport or allow the same set-up to exist.

Second as I recall the "All-A" classic was the creation of private schools in Northern Kentucky. Are the public schools now going to try to take this over?
