April 3, 200719 yr Maybe the reason why football is TAKING OVER BASKETBALL as some as offered as an opinion is that MORE students have an opportunity to compete for regional and state champions in football than they do in basketball. Maybe, just maybe, if basketball gave the SAME OPPORTUNITIES to their players as is done in football, you would not have that opinion. Kids in Beechwood/NCC/Danville, etc. football know they have a realistic chance to win the state football championship. The basketball players don't have that same feeling. Are you serious? The kids really believe this? The kids go into basketball games thinking they do not have a chance to win?

I would say it happens all the time...I remember our local team traveled to Scott County for summer basketball and they just hoped they would not get humiliated. They may have had 1-2 individual players that could hold their own but to match 5 with the talent some of these schools have is very difficult. Not to mention they have no bench, so if they get in foul trouble or are tired they have to play through it. They have no gyms to have year round ball in and less economic resources for the individual players. Big schools will always have the advantage. We can either level the playing field like football or just leave it with an underdog getting an occasional win. But let's not pretend that it is an equal playing field.
April 3, 200719 yr Just to point out if ANY HIGH SCHOOL in the state felt strong enough about the class system for other sports, they could make a proposal to the delegate assembly for consideration. If the OTHER HIGH SCHOOLS in the state agreed, they would vote in the positive for the proposal and we would have a class system. Changes in the KHSAA come from the schools not from the people in the KHSAA HQ's. The KHSAA organization and setup is determined by the HIGH SCHOOLS. Not necessarily. Wasn't it 2 years ago that the delegate assembly took place for the KHSAA and it was voted to separate public and private. At this point, the KHSAA stepped in and voted against the delegates from the schools. This caused the state to get involved and it was voted down at the state level. Had the KHSAA supported this passed proposal, we would now be playing in separate state playoffs.

At this point, the KHSAA stepped in and voted against the delegates from the schools. This caused the state to get involved and it was voted down at the state level. Had the KHSAA supported this passed proposal, we would now be playing in separate state playoffs. Wrong The KHSAA could have endorsed separation that the state BOE could still have rejected it (just like they are going to reject Prop.2). Since the KHSAA is a sub group of the state BOE they always have the last say on any rules change.

History of the All "A" Classic The groundwork for the Kentucky All-A-Classic was formed in 1980 through the efforts of coaches like Stan Steidel of Dayton, Father Ed Heile of Covington Latin, Bill Frey of Covington Holy Cross and others. The inception of a small school basketball tournament began in January of 1980. The first Class "A" Tournament was held at Holy Cross High School in Latonia with eight teams. In 1981 it moved to Bellevue with ten teams, all from Northern Kentucky.

I have heard people refer to him as the GodFather of the All "A". Cov Latin doesn't even field a team anymore do they? Haven't seen them lately.

He is the one reason I would love to see the All "A" come back home to NKy when the new Arena opens up at NKU, if no other reason than to honor him...... for all the work he has done for the small schools..... Batting .000 CovLatin....via KHSAA Scoreboard........ But you are correct they haven't played in the All "A" in a while:thumb: ... I will bet you though that you have heard of one of their former students, who did quite well for himself playing major league baseball? A guy named David Justice who played for the Atlanta Braves, did quite well in the class room and on the ball diamond.....

Wow...I am knocking the cover off the ball, the only team on their schedule I recognize is Deming. I agree, it would be nice to see the All A come back to NKY at the new Bank of Kentucky Center, to honor him for all his hard work. I don't however, see this happening. I think MacBreyer Arena does a nice job with it and as the old syaing goes...If it's not broke, don't fix it.

I guess if EKU can accomidate the All-A NKU could also, but I wouldn't count on it. I believe NKU is looking to use their arena for "other" things besides basketball.

Yes, the Board of Control voted to not support it. But it STILL goes to the KY BOE. They said that the BOC better go back and look for a compromise on this issue. That is where Prop 20 died because of lack of support from the KY BOE who has to approve the KHSAA actions.

How is it legal that the state can make rules to govern sports that privates VOLUNTARILY join and there is a strong view that will be declared unconstitutional but the same BOE that would pass those athletic rules cannot place any academic rules on the privates? Serious and interesting question that I would like to hear some discussion on. Why can an athletic rule from an organization that the privates voluntarily are a member of ruled by a state government agency be declared unconstitutional but they (KY BOE) has ZERO power over the academic standards of the same private schools?
April 7, 200719 yr My understanding is that private schools in the KHSAA agree to abide by academic standards regarding eligibility (those are the only academic rules that the KHSAA has) and in fact there are some private schools that won't do that and as such are not in the KHSAA.

Not addressing the KHSAA but the KY BOE. They are the party that finalizes the rules that the KHSAA enforces and runs by. In fact the Prop 2 that has just been approved was approved by the KY Board of Education.
