Hint....Kids in private schools watch South Park too! Hint #2...there are kids who are disrespectful in private schools too. Hint #3...There are kids in private schools who face awful homelifes, danger and hardships too.

I would guess that most have parents that are actively involved in their lives and care.

The bolded has been my point from the beginning. These things are marketed and aimed at these kids and they are not capable of sorting them out.

 

At first it was said that South Park was on late at night and not aimed at kids. Last two nights it has been on at 9:00 PM. THat is not late at night. It is a cartoon. Kids see animation on the television, they think hey this is a cartoon.

 

And btw, that is a good quote.

My point is that you can't teach children how to walk on their own by surrounding them with pillows and never letting go. They have to set out on their own (with guidance) and they have to "fall down and go boom" once in a while.

LBBC - I think your way of thinking does more harm than good. Thinking that our children will not be exposed to things we don't approve of, is like being an ostrich in the sand. Quicksand! Obsessively repressing children often comes back to bite the parents later on. A child who feels they've been denied the normal experiences of youth, might -- when inevitably exposed to them -- rebel, or worse.

 

Parents like yourself don't want to believe their children are more savvy today. Oh, but they are! Parents can't prevent their children from being exposed to the darker side of life. They must prepare them for it. Teach them how to react to it. And be an example of what (in their view) is right and virtuous.

 

I wholeheartedly agree with your point. I have seen countless kids whose parents have sheltered them from everything evil in this world, go off to college and completely freak out, because they don't have any experience in dealing with the real world and the vices that come with it. I'm talking about girls that appeared headed to the convent turning into girls gone wild almost overnight. I'm not advocating bringing home a Playboy and case of beer for your kids, but It appears to me that those who have been exposed to the evils that are out there are better able to deal with the situation that they encounter once they are away from the protective shadow of their parents.

South Park is obviously not marketed toward kids. The material is to mature for children to watch and to understand. Just because something is animated doesn't make it for children. It is very much meant for my generation. I'm twenty six. I grew up in the golden era of cartoons. If anyone is putting south park in the same context as Larry Flint they obviously are not getting past the language and the method of delivery to see the message. Could south park get their message across without using such language and shock value? Yes. But would I watch? No.

Check out the Cartoon Network. They have a lot of cartoons aimed at adults with equally as crude adult humor as South Park. If you're worried about kids stumbling onto South Park because it's a cartoon shouldn't you start with a channel that features nothing but cartoons?

 

Why do you have a huge problem with South Park coming on at 9 when shows in primetime on NBC, ABC, CBS and FOX are made for adults as well?

I was presenting information to the point made earlier that it is a late night cartoon ran at 10:00 PM. That information was wrong and I just posted the 9:00 to inform everyone that it is broadcast earlier than a late-night time.

 

What time does the adult cartoons on the Cartoon Network come on? I was unaware of them and will research it as the cartoon network is one network I allow my son to watch.
