All of the examples given outside of BGP are controlled by governmental agencies. The word let is a big word in this post. Let infers control. Control by who? Your examples would indicate the government.

I am not sure. I would love to see someway to stop the Fred Phelps of the world whose projects serves no purpose. He offends me more than any person has done in a long, long time. I know that is limiting freedom of speech but we do that presently with "freedom of speech" zones around the president. Why can't we have that with funerals? I know that is governmental control but sometimes it is needed. I wonder if it is not needed to stop the Fred Phelps of the world.

 

I understand what you are pointing out and it is a good case but our freedom of speech is already limited.

 

As I said, I wish people had better expectations for themselves than to put crap on like this, selling drugs, etc.

Fair question and I ment by knowing me you would have understood my belief system where by studying scripture we are "called out saints" and doing our Christ Like duty to pointing out sin. I'm not trying to get the show off the air. My thread was asking "How they get away with the Garbage they put out"? This one show caused me to complain, it was over the line. Low brow humor on COMEDY Central after 10 pm? I'm shocked...

On last night at 9:00 PM on Comedy Central.

 

During commercials of 24, I was channel surfing because I am a man and refuse to watch commercials,

 

and came upon a South Park episode at 9:00 PM. Decided to watch it and the thoughtful commentary on society you guys had talked about. In the 2-3 minutes of the episode I viewed it was about farting in class. They were sitting in their desks farting with one having flames shoot from his butt. They sat there, directed vulgar language to their teacher and to each other while farting with flames coming out their butt.

 

24 was coming back on, so I returned to it as I had had enough of the thoughtful commentary on society.

I think you missed the underlying social implications. That scene was a cleverly crafted metaphor for the failings of our educational system and a biting commentary on the deviant social paradigm promoted by an avaricious media megalopoly...

 

...and fire prevention.

The only thing that I can say is that we all do what we can. By that I mean that we as parents are responsible for teaching our kids morals, ethics and values. I've never been the type of parent to forbid anything. I've never hidden anything. When the subject arose about whatever, mostly music in my house, I'd talk to them about the music, what I thought of it, what I expected of them. (Ask my kids...I'm a real talker. :creepy:)

 

A classic example...My son, when he was 12, really got into rap music. Not hip hop, that really crude rap stuff. He wanted a certain CD, and had the money to buy it. We sat down, and I told him why I objected to it. I told him that I wasn't going to forbid him from buying it, but that if I EVER heard one word, one disrespectful comment, one attitude that reflected in any way to what he was listening to, there would be consequences. I explained that I was respectful of our differences in entertainment choices, but that the line was drawn and immitating what he heard would not be tolerated. I told him that he had to keep it in perspective.

 

The final result is, he got his CD, drove me crazy with it for a while, and never once exhibited any behavior that I could find fault with. He kept the CD in perspective.

 

You can't control what our kids are exposed to 100% of the time. But, you CAN teach them to be exposed to things and not be influenced by them.

I don't like it, so I don't watch it. Simple as that. Even if I enjoyed the subject matter, I just can't get past the horrible animation.

But no matter how much you do you will never end all evil in the world or stop every bad thing from happening from someone who has no help. Even if you could, the idea that "fart jokes" and cussing are wrong is still your opinion, not divine instruction.

 

P.S. You would need to watch an entire episode of South Park to get the social satire part. I also find it ironic that you were flipping between a show involving blatant violence, killing, and destruction and another involving foul words and you've only chosen to condemn one of them.

What if Larry Jr. is walking down the street and overhears a telephone conversation where someone says something crude, what if someone stubs their toe around little Larry and he hears them mutter a foul word. When Larry begins High School he will undoubtedly face an onslaught of every wild thought that runs through adolescents' heads. He might as well be prepared for it, understand it, and able to use his own discretion about it or he will certainly get the wrong idea and may even join in.

Habib, We know we can't control everything read RockMom's post she had it right on. We can only teach them values and they make the final decision. I don't think you can compare to street wise situations and a cartoon show made by grown people and making millions. Peer pressure is hard we all can give testimonies. Also I raised and rasing Four boys and have seen & heard everything. One has played high school football and has heard some words.
