Habib, I didn't say I think it should be censored. What I would prefer is that these two talented young men could produce something that could be a positive for our society. Instead they chose to go the easy route, put some cuss words and vulgar humor in it to shock and convince the youth that this is cool so they can make money.

 

Who said I wasn't offended by the violence? I daily have discussions with my kids that violence is not the way to solve problems. They have a disagreement and they think they have to fight to protect their "street rep." (as they call it) I showed End of the Spear about two weeks ago and hit on the them that this tribe that knew nothing but using violence to solve all their issues. And what happened to them? They ended up killing babies and each other.

 

We talk over and over about the problems with the youth and I am just letting you in on ONE of the problems. They see it on TV, they hear it in their music, they go watch it in their movies and they think it is normal.

 

They believe that Real Housewives of Orange County and taking a limo to go get their nails done is real life.

I have tried to watch it but didn't find it entertaining.

Did you read the rest of the post or stop there? That is thrown up all the time when we CONSISTENTLY in this country limit it.

 

You brought religion up and we have another thread that says a pastor cannot stand up in the pulpit and politically take the stance of supporting a candidate. Limit of freedom of speech.

 

Also, if you stood up in your classroom and used the language that is used on South Park, do you get to keep your job? If not, you don't have complete freedom of speech.

 

We have CONDITIONAL freedom of speech in this country.

 

Also, never said I was tired of freedom of speech, I said I was tired of consistently it being brought up like we have a complete and full freedom of speech in this country.

 

It's already limited. They bleep out certain words, it's on cable, it's on late. If I want to quote South Park to 10 year olds I will lose my job, but I won't be punished by crime. I could still find employment. Any politician can say what they want. Other than threats I don't have a problem with any type of language. Honestly I've met some great people with terrible language. I never judge.

LBBC, I teach the same kind of children. The problem, IMO, is that the TV,video, internet, mass advertisement, and basic humanist ideals are raising these children. It wouldn't matter what they would see if they had a father at home delivering justice every time that they performed in an improper manor. However, we find that many of these children have fathers that they are just alike, or no fathers at all. If something on TV has that large of an affect on a child, the child is in the wrong discipline situation.

I understand and agree with you. I have said that the parents should get most of the blame.

 

But I don't think that gives companies free reign to put on whatever they want. Hey, we are not raising the children so we don't have any ethical obligations on what we put on television.

 

As parts of our society, I believe each of us have ethical obligations.

 

Some are great (time to brownnose a little) and worrisome about what they put in the front of youths, like guru on BGP and what he allows to be discussed on here and what is not. Some like Larry Flynt or Hugh Hefner don't care what they put in front of youth as long as it makes money.

 

I wish that any censoring would be done by the two who would say, that is not what we want our contributions to society to be about. To be about crude vulgar humor with course language that doesn't give the youth that watches this show a good role model.

 

I guess I am an idealists that says you can make enough money and still provide a high quality program that is not vulgar and crude.

 

I think of Everybody Loves Raymond, I think All in the Family that raised major issues but didn't sink to the level of South Park.

I don't understand the uproar. A couple of curse words and this is worse than 95% of the garbage on T.V. This is about one of five shows where it actually takes intelligence to watch. I've watched this show since I was 14, and I don't yell curse words out in class, I don't curse at my parents, etc. This is a show to point out the flaws of society and make fun of them, one of these problems being people more worried about cartoon shows like South Park, than the rest of the problems in the world. Kids who are disrespectful aren't disrespectful because of what music they listen to, cartoon shows they watch, or movies they watch. They are disrespectful because they want to be. People can throw the blame around all they want, but no matter how much you take away, they will always find something to blame. The vulgarity in American television is minimal compared to the rest of the world, so I don't think South Park is corrupting our youth....

This type of statement bothers me because I deal with students all the time that don't turn it off and I have to deal with the language, attitude, etc of South Park. Their parents don't monitor what they are watching and as a result I have to deal with the "stuff" that comes to school via these type of programs.

 

Come and spend a year teaching in a public school setting dealing with "South Park" type fallout and see how you feel about this type of crap on television.

I am SICK AND TIRED OF THE FREE SPEECH ARGUMENT. We limit free speech all the time in this country. BGP limits our free speech and I don't see any picketing of guru's house. You can't make threats on the Presidents' lives without a visit from the Secret Service and possible charges for it. Students are suspended from school for language and making comments about teachers. You can't say certain words on public television.

Your post boils down to the bolded. I have chosen to deal with those kids every single day. My choice because someone needs to have a positive effect on them when their parents and society do not.

 

Your dealing in an ideal world and I am telling you the reality of what is happening with too many of our youth don't have parents as you had.

 

Earlier in the school year, I had 9 kids with not a single father involved in their lives. Presently, I have a handful of kids that NEITHER parent is involved in their lives.

 

As a society are we supposed to just throw away these kids because their parents don't care? Or would it be better that we have a society that teaches/supports those who don't have anyone to teach/support?

 

I understand what happens when parents are not there, I'm not oblivious to the world you know. My point is that you can't blame TV for that. Don't get off the subject. Your last paragraph is getting away from the point and taking this too far. Like I said, helping kids that don't have help is great, but if you have a problem with South Park because of the issues you are bringing up, then you have a much bigger problem with a lot of more things than just South Park.

Someone suggested for me to "turn the channel". Again I was scanning I'm a Male, I knew about the show and wanted to see how much it would go with the topic. Again look at my question. The network is Comedy Central and there is some nice shows on there. What about the men who turned gay? How can they do that? Garbage, My opinion. If you think its OK, thats fine. Every knee will bow, every tongue will confess. The creators of the show....Oh well Matthew 7:1...If I don't speak out I'm not doing my job folks. And Monday I will contact Comedy Central and thats my right.
