EKY Spring Football

North Laurel started spring ball on the 8th. They are dress around 50 varsity kids for their sesions. The first four days will all be individual fundamental practices with position coaches, while the next 5 will be team practices working on some areas the coaching staff feels the players lack. Such physical toughness, tackling, and turnovers as well as working basic offense and defensive packages. All practices will be followed by lift. And the last day (the day before spring break starts) they will have a blue/white scrimmage. This is the first season NL will have players mainly going one way with a few eceptions, but players will focus and practice one position. The blue/white game will be set up like a college spring game, and possibly will take place during school with the student body in attendence. Numbers have went up drasticly with staff expecting between 75 and 80 players including frosh.

That is great news to hear. I always thought North Laurel would be a good school to build a program. However, don't you think the numbers should be better at a school that big? For example, Raceland, a small Class A school is dressing 38 for spring, not including freshmen. North Laurel who should be 5A or 6A in the fall is only dressing 12 more kids???? At a school the size of North Laurel, they should average about 25-30 kids a class for football. The problem isn't just at North Laurel either. It seems like a lot of 1A and 2A schools get more extra curricular involvement out of a larger percentage of their student body than some big schools like North Laurel. Why is this?? I know this is a little off the subject.... Best of luck to North in 07.

Your right a 5A school should have double the kids of a 1A school but most

5A and 6A other than Lexington and Louisville (with some exceptions) schools don't. The problem in our area is basketball. And this isn't a knock against basketball or the coaches in laurel county but laurel county is traditionally a basketball school, and the sucess of SL and NL in basketball doesn't really help matters either. I think both schools are headed in the right direction numbers wise both will be between 70 and 80 kids next season. The only thing I think will get more kids out will be winning and that is something niether program has done a whole lot since the split in 1992.

Leslie Co. has had an excellent spring football. I don't know where some of these guys were last year, but there are some monsters on the field down there. I was watching the o-line one day and there were at least 6 guys over 6'3 and they were getting with it. Strong, aggressive type linemen. Coach Asher and Coach Rice over there are getting them into shape. There won't be any letdowns like last year, thats a fact.

Also, Jordan Morgan will put up some big time numbers at RB. The rest of the skilled position guys that contribute all play baseball and do not attend spring practice.
