EKY Spring Football

Featured Replies

I am going to post regional threads on this topic. I want to know what teams in EKY are going to have spring football practice and what that practice consists of? Then the fun part will be comparing how much schools do in the spring and how successful they are in the fall.

How about it?

Raceland

Last year was the first year that Raceland had a well structured Spring Football Practice. Raceland had nine, full contact, practices. And ended the Spring season with an Orange-White game. Great Spring Practice.

Ended the 2006 season Districtic Champtions, 11-2 Season.

I have been told by the coaching staff that this year will be the same structure.

Rockcastle County will have theirs I'm sure after the girls state tournament, since the Lady Rockets have an excellent shot at making it to Diddle this year. It will be the same structured practices as usual Monday-Thursday unless weather gets in the way, then it is just scheduled for a day that is going to be nice outside since there is a time window to complete spring practice. It is done with full pads a lot of fundamental work and simplifying the offense/defense for younger players. It is great time for kids who may be overlooked during the season to cathc the eyes of a coach and show how much progress they made in the offseason with weights and speed conditioning. Practices won't last over 2 hours for the Spring.

Since no one else is going to post:

Ashland

Last year had nine practices and a maroon/white game.

Russell

Last year had indoor non-contact practices

Greenup Co.

Had full contact practice

Fairview

I do not believe they participated in spring football.

Russell does have non-contact practice in the gym before school. Basically a walk through nothing big. Most of the spring is spent in the weight room.

Fairview went in Shoulder Pads and helmets last year. They are not doing spring ball this year due to so many players involved in baseball and track.

I heard from a pretty good source that the eagles were having trouble getting players out for this upcoming season. I hope this isnt true because Fairview looked to have some young talent last year and I was expecting them to have a descent season in 07'.

Didn't mean to cut Fairview short, I didn't know they had spring practice last year.

Raceland starts Springs practice tomorrow, Tuesday March 13.

Just got home from Raceland's first spring practice. Seemed to be a very good practice. Raceland had 38 players present for spring practice, a great start.

If Raceland had 38 for spring, then I would say numbers are comparable b/w the two schools. Raceland might have about half a dozen more kids. Fairview doesn't get baseball players for spring ball, therefore I heard they are going to concentrate on lifting this spring. Hopefully the roster will be over 40 by fall practice. I'll try to find out more.

The Rams had several kids absent yesterday due to a field trip and they also are expecting an incoming freshman class of about 15-20 kids. The numbers are looking good for the Rams in 07', I think thier biggest question will be leadership.

Raceland should have good numbers the next couple of years. Good luck in 07.

North Laurel started spring ball on the 8th. They are dress around 50 varsity kids for their sesions. The first four days will all be individual fundamental practices with position coaches, while the next 5 will be team practices working on some areas the coaching staff feels the players lack. Such physical toughness, tackling, and turnovers as well as working basic offense and defensive packages. All practices will be followed by lift. And the last day (the day before spring break starts) they will have a blue/white scrimmage. This is the first season NL will have players mainly going one way with a few eceptions, but players will focus and practice one position. The blue/white game will be set up like a college spring game, and possibly will take place during school with the student body in attendence. Numbers have went up drasticly with staff expecting between 75 and 80 players including frosh.

I know Estill County is having spring practice.
