March 1, 200719 yr I know plenty. I know that he never took a team to the NCAA tourney. I know that he had an overall losing record. I know that he had several professional level players on his best team and couldn't win the OVC. I know that he was an arrogant jerk that acted like he was better than everyone else in Morehead (my opinion of course). I know that he had walkons that would light the scholarship players up practice after practice, only to say "ok, let's get the scholly's back in..." I know that free throw % is an important stat, but in the grand scheme of things that doesn't really mean crap. I know that MSU was 4-23 last season, in a mediocre OVC. I know that Macy came on the radio (and yes I heard this) before a game and called one of his players "a mama's boy that had to run home to mommy because he was injured... most players would realize the importance of this game and suck it up and play, but he decided to take a night off..." I know that many times he came on the radio and on the Kyle Show to state, "we drew up a good game plan that should've won the game, but the players failed to execute..." I know from several top-level people within the MSU Athletics Dept., that he always thought he was better than the program because he was from UK. I know that MSU's new coach took a few of Macy's players (the ones that were 4-23 last season) and 8 freshmen/transfers and won 12 games and made the conference tourney for the first time in 4 seasons. I know that Macy publicly blasted MSU and took zero blame for his coaching inabilities. I know that the people of Morehead will take their chances with Macy living in Lexington. I know plenty. Is this the kind of person you want to be involved with UK athletics? Not me. I agree 1000%, you all think the assistants are bad now, they hire him it will get worse and another little piece of info for everyone, half the players he recruited at MSU didn't know or care who he was or where he played at. Hiring him would be a joke.
March 1, 200719 yr That I won't argue with...it just seems to me, he's not very good at getting elite prospects to buy into the system, whereas the guys just a notch below have proven to be more successful for him. But, you don't have a lot of margin for error when you recruit players like that. The one thing that Patterson and Lucas have is good reputations for working hard. If we get them I am very excited about next season. Jasper, Meeks, and Bradley all play hard all the time and add a couple of more who supposed to be the types of players who do the same thing is exciting. This summer all I heard was how Patterson outworked anyone he faced inside all summer long.

We actually stopped going it was so bad along with half the alumni. I only missed one game this year, and if anyone from MSU goes to the UK staff it should be Coach Tyndall and I hope that never happens. I'm in perfect aggreeance on everything. I purchased season tickets this season for my wife and I, as well. I would never purchase season tickets if Macy were still the coach. Tyndall coached more in the first two weeks of the season than Macy did all of last year. He also talked to more people and groups than Macy did in 10 years.
March 1, 200719 yr Jasper doesn't try to shoot; he is a good point guard; he is thinking about getting everyone else involved; he looks to advance the ball up the floor; he will penetrate from time to time; he is a team player, unlike Rondo. That is true, he doesn't try to shoot at all, and dont you think that hurts the team because other teams know they can lay off of him because he wont shoot. He is very good when we are out in running, but for the most part we are not out and running, we are usually in the half court set and he does NOTHING in the half court set. He doesn't even drive the ball to the hoop in the half court. When it comes to the half court he is a liability. He started off the year so great for us in the Maui Invintational and other games. But since the start of the year he hasn't really done ANYTHING to really help out the team much. I mean I think you can just look at the game yesterday, I think Tubby is even noticing Jasper is not doing to much anymore, and that is why he didn't play as much as usual yesterday and we saw Porter in more than usual. I do agree with you that he is a team player unlike Rondo, and I think Jasper is going to be very good EVENTUALLY...
March 1, 200719 yr Come on guys I know theres a ton of you Morehead St fans out there, but lets not turn it into a Morehead St Thread! Stewart also has a reputation as a hard worker. In seeing him play I think he can be an athletic, physical front line player who will be much better than Thomas.

IMO, I think he ran his course at MSU a few years back and should have seen the writing on the wall. He isn't a great collegiate head coach...but imo, I think he has lots to offer.
March 1, 200719 yr I like the way everyone mentions Prince and Bogans...Bogans, of course, a guy who was good as a freshmen, regressed as a sophomore and junior, and re-emerged as a senior...but, I digress... ...the players that seem not to be mentioned... Rashad Carruth Jason Parker Marvin Stone ...and, of course, his big three of Rondo, Crawford and Morris... Tubby seems to do his best with guys that are just a notch below the top level...Hawkins, Fitch, Hayes, Daniels, Estill, Camara, and now Meeks and Jasper and hopefully Porter and Stevenson. So, please, let's be fair and mention more than Prince and Bogans when analyzing Tubby's track record with high profile recruits... Isn't Rondo in the NBA?....Or, is him being there, going to be a despite Tubby and of course, no credit given..As far as Crawford and Morris goes, who's to say both won't be playing in the NBA...Morris made a mistake and now can't go back in the draft..If he could, either this year or next, I feel confident, he would get drafted...Crawford, may be like Buike and go undrafted but find his way on a team or he could possibly be a late round pick...Besides Prince and Bogans, theres Magloire, who was a Pitino recruit, but, couldn't walk and chew gum at the same time when playing under Pitino, and he developed under Tubby, then theres Azabuike, Hayes, Rondo...Thats 6 playing at the next level right now and I may be mistaken, but, I believe Fitch, Daniels and Camara all had stints in the NBA, albeit, not very long stints...Hawkins may have, as well...As far as Carruth, Parker and Stone goes, you've got a head case who couldnt make it anywhere, another who battled injuries and off the court issues, who also had these at other places, then you have a transfer, who never panned out, even under the legendary tuttelidge of the master himself, Pitino...I'd also like for someone to go back and look at the last 10 years of McD AAs and tell me how many made the NBA and how many didn't. I believe you will see a high% not making it, proving it's not just a Tubby thing...

What do YOU actually know? :lol: Macy had one of the best records in MSU Basketball history winning an OVC regular Season Championship 2001- 2002 led the NATION in FT %!! 2002-2003 led the NATION in FG %!! The Nation! Not to mention that he was a NBA 1st round draft pick shooting lights out from the free throw line holding UK and Sun's records. I'd wouldn't mind an assistant coach who can coach that kind of results. Macy battled the leadership at Morehead for years. That school don't want to spend any money on athletics at all. Every bit of money that the basketball program had was with Macy fighting, scraping anything he could to make ends meat.

I hold more optimism for these two guys for several reasons... 1) it seemed (as some have alluded to in other threads) that some of our other high profile guys just fell in UK's lap in a sense (Rondo, Morris and Crawford)...they were late commits who didn't necessarily want to play for UK...and as some have said, there is probably a reason they weren't snatched up at that point...Morris and Rondo wanted to be in the NBA ASAP, and Crawford obviously was disgruntled early on in his career 2) Parker ended up at UK after he couldn't get in at UNC 3) Carruth seemed to be a problem child from almost day one 4) Stone was another guy who had one foot out the door when he came...plus he turned out to be a bust anyway On the flipside, I haven't really heard anything bad about Lucas or Patterson, and if they end up at UK, it sounds like it will be because they want to be there. It just seems like to me Tubby handcuffs his big talent sometimes, when it seems like it would benefit the team if he freed them up more.
