CovCath 102 Beechwood 43

They should be embarrassed by the schedule, if your a "A" school around here you should be playing St. Henry, NewCath, etc. much less Calvary, Villa, Dayton and Heritage. Me, the Guru and the Old Guy could win 10 games with that schedule !!!!!!

They may be required to play the small schools since they're in the same NKAC division.

BTW I was at the game and unfortunatley I'm not going to go one way or the other(wimp way out). I questioned one of the regulars after the game why in the world was Roll jacking up 3's in the 4th quarter with a 50 point lead. I personally thought it was rediculous and I'm a CCH fan. If you look at the box score they had 32 points in the 4th !!!! As Guru mentioned there should have been 6 passes or more, no 3's and no major effort to score. Well the comments by the player were somewhat telling of the situation. He mentioned as others had that it was mainly sophomore JV players in from the middle of the 3rd, and how do you tell a kid that has'nt played Varsity all year and will not get to play again to not score. He also mentioned that the players on the court and the bench definitely got caught up in scoring 100. None of this had anything to do with Beechwood, or proving a point of anything else, it just happened. It looks like I'm going to give my opinion here though, there were 5 adults(coaches) on that bench and they are suppossed to be the mature ones and there's no reason to score 100 and win by 60, period.

that may be

Do you know if they even played NCC, St. Henry or Brossart this year ?

Without looking it up, I'd say no unless it was in the All A.

Played St. Henry in the All "A" and Holy Cross--No Brossart or NCC. I do think some of the Heritage, Villa, Ludlow, etc. schedule is NKAC Division III, but several of them 2-3 times?? Surprized when I saw this schedule as well, because when I was in school years ago, they seemed to play most everyone in the area. Maybe this type scheduling has contributed to their basketball decline??

Totally agree with you BGGreen, that's basically guaranteeing yourself 15 wins with those teams 2 and 3 times. Apparantly beating the worst teams in the region one time in a year is not good enough

I asked someone I think very highly of and he told me this about the game:

They definitely ran up the score. They were shooting threes with less than a minute left. There are certain things you do when you have a lead like that (tell your kids to pass six times before shooting, don't shoot threes, don't score fast-break points, keep a foot in the lane at all times on defense, etc.). CovCath did none of those things. It was disgraceful.

It sounds like they ran the score up to me. This doesn't have to happen. When you're ahead by 50 and still shooting 3's...

Our girls were down about 20 a few weeks ago with 10 seconds left in a game. The other team was dribbling the ball and appeared to be allowing the time to expire. Our defenders backed off and just stood there, also allowing the time to run off. Then, with 2 seconds left, instead of running out the clock, the opponent jacked up a 3 and hit it. Most players won't do that, and most coaches won't allow it.

Same thing with allowing players to shoot 3's when you're in front by 50. It shouldn't happen.

Outsider looking in here.....the "3 times" was due to the All A opponents, and they are required to play each conference opponent twice in the regular season. As far as the "worst" teams in the region, more often than not said "worst" teams are simply smaller schools simply trying to compete, with the exception of a few schools every couple years. How bout a little love for the small schools who work just as hard each year as CCath, Holmes, Boone etc., but simply are in a numbers crunch;)

By this rationale, Boone, Campbell County, Ryle, etc should dominate regional tournament play year and year out based on their numbers. None are in the region?

Brossart is closer in enrollment to most D-III schools than other schools on their schedule. Didn't keep them from beating much larger schools like CovCAth, Campbell County, Montgomery County, and Scott.

I apologize about getting off the thread of running up the score, I have my own thoughts on that one. But, the criticism of the D-III schedule is valid.

No offense to Bwood, but they are not very good . They're not top 10. They're bottom 10. I'm not taking anything away from their season but lets keep it in perspective. They simply do not have the talent and numbers to compete even with an average 9th region team.

Are we really saying that the CCH JV when playing against the Beechwood varsity should take it easy on them?

FWIW, two of the top 10 teams in the Ninth Region are also bottom 10 teams in the Ninth Region. ;) The days of using a top 10 in the ninth to gauge a team's strength is over.

Lots of questions about strength of schedule here. Everyone needs to keep in mind that:

All eight D-III schools are mandated to play twice a year (14 games.)

All the D-I and D-II schools are mandated to play only once a year (eight games for the D-I teams and six games for D-II teams.)

This is mandated by the NKAC as a result of member school voting in each division. Division I and II are likely changing to a new (tournament) format next year, D-III will remain the same.

So wrongs make rights? That is very interesting BGGreen.

Give me a break. Two wrongs do not make a right, but it seems awfully hypocritical to me for Beechwood to accuse someone of running up the score the same season they beat someone 58-6.

At least you agree CCH ran up the score...

Also, I am not "Beechwood," I just went to school there over 20 years ago, but if they ran up the score earlier this year then shame on them too and if you want to start a thread on that game I would love to know more about it.

There is an argument here if they left the starters/regular varsity players in when they were up that much... If the players from the end of the bench are in the game - for some of the few minutes they actually get to see the floor - then they should play as hard and as GOOD as they can. Those kids work hard every day in practice and are trying to work their way up the playing time ladder.

Against Frankfort last night I was very proud of a couple of kids - Senior Mason Karrick and Senior Cameron Mingua... they have had to sit and watch and cheer all year during the games - but they work very hard and have good attitudes all the time. When they get into a game (and are playing against the starters from the other team) - they should be able to PLAY.

I'm against the showboating and the last second shot is not necessary, but there are two sides to the story... Sometimes it's not about running up the score - it's about preparing your own team for the next game in the tournament.

For the record Mike Hearld doesn't think Cov. Cath ran up the score.
