First, I'm not a Gore apologist. I simply deplore the way people attack those who have money for not doing "enough", when it's the little things we all do day to day that will make a difference.

 

I deplore that a person who is wealthy, famous, a celebrity, etc are always attacked for not doing "enough" while we sit here doing nothing. I've seen it over and over and over. From Bono's works to assist in 3rd world countries, to Gore's works to bring a consciousness to global warming. Somehow it makes us feel better to attack them for not doing enough, while we do nothing.

 

Very often, people simply dismiss or attack based on limited information, or information from select sources. Sometimes, even when presented with evidence to the contrary, those who are attacking simply ignore the evidence, or scoff at it.

 

I may be hypocritical. I'm human. I don't deny it. I'm sure that there are more things that I can do in so many areas where I think others aren't doing enough. Yes, call me hypocritical. However, having recognized that, I will definitely work to be less hypocritical, and to make a conscious effort to make sure I'm not criticizing people for not doing the same things I'm not doing.

Problem is, his purpose (IMO) is nothing more than political. He want's to scare you into his corner on global warming for his own gain. I expect Al to run for president and this will be a huge part of his platform.

9/11 is the main reason we should have elected Gore in 2000. President Bush has used 9/11 as an excuse for everything he has done since. He has hurt the long term security of the United States. Gore would have done MUCH better.

Does Gore really need a 10,000 square foot house with a seperate pool house that uses more energy then my primary house? Maybe does more then me to conserve energy then me, I can't say for sure. But I can say for sure he does more to consume energy then I ever thought about doing. He uses more power/gas in one month then I do in a year.

By the same token, does any of us really need a dwelling that is larger than the bare minimim needed to accommodate it's occupants? I mean, my father was raised in a 1 bedroom shack without electricity or running water with 12 other siblings.

Now there's a statement pulled right out of the backside with no foundation or possible way of knowing if its accurate.

 

If Gore or some of you can justify his use of private jets because it is more convenient for his schedule, then I can justify driving my truck that gets 12 mpg as convenient for my farm. I can justify not riding the bus because driving my own vehicle is more convenient to my schedule and need to meet with clients.

I'm talking about the conferences he does for the general public and at the Universities across the world. It's all non-profit and he pays all of the expenses out of his pocket. And yes, he is doing it out of his love of the planet.

Al Gore is filled with self importance and is a legend only in his own mind. He would make a poor choice for president and I am sure that the American people are much too intelligent to put him that position. That alone restores my faith in humanity!

Okay Rm while I have never considered you a member of the leftwing attack commandos, and never will, I respect your opinions, I believe what you are saying here deserves a response. Is attacking Bono or Gore or any of the leftist elite any more of a "sin" than the generalizations and stereotyping of Republicans that has long been the hallmark of the Democratic Party? Rich fat cat businessmen, bigots, haters, or worse, rightist extremists, backwrd thinking religious zealots!

 

As a Republican who is not rich, not a businessman, not right-wing extremist, not a bigot, works in Social work, believes and works for conservation and land preservation, has worked for River restoration etc. and had ALOT of other like-minded Republican brethren do it with me, I really have no sympathy for your statement. I believe the Harris Poll Group did the study, I'll check my source to make sure, but the study concluded that there are MORE per-capita millionaires who profess to be members of the Democratic Party than those who profess to be Republicans. The study went on to say that more persons listed on the Fotune 500's membership of Boards of Directors are card carrying Democrats than Republicans.

 

My point (sorry for going the long way round the barn) is that you can't have it both ways. Dem leadership wants to use the Republican stereotype as ammunition every time a social issue comes down the road but whenever the tables are turned theywant to cry foul! Your post nicely sums up the whole reason I registered Independent. When it came down to it, I simply could not stomach putting either (D) or ® next to my name. It all came down to a philosophical rebellion against both major parties, primarily for the reasons you outline above.

I would love to see proof he does this for free. Do you have a link that supports what you are saying? Not saying you are wrong but I would like to admit I was wrong.
