And, given his schedule, it seems to me that having a private jet makes sense for him.

If it didn't appear that he was speaking out of both sides of his face I could agree with you. Gore has now become the very visible face of the Global Warming crowd. Anything less then changing his lifestyle so as to stop doing what he is condemning others for is nothing less then blatent hypocrisy on his part. Make a schedule where you can get between speaking engagements on commercial flights. I'm sure that he is compensated well enough for his appearances that if he had to cancel a few he would be in no danger of going broke. Get a smaller home. Why do he and Tipper need a house big enough that it costs that much to heat it? Insist on being chaufered around in hybrid automobiles. Why should he deride other for owning SUVs and then turn around and use them himself?

 

Gore has chosen to put himself in the position of environmental conscience of the nation. He needs to practice what he preaches regardless of the "hardships" he may have to endure.

I feel exactly the same way. I have no problem with anyone reeping the fruits of their success, but when they in turn expect others not to is ludicrous.

Every Limo and SUV that you saw in "An Inconvenient Truth" was a hybrid. They're all that he uses. Gore does more to conserve energy than everyone on this board combined so I see little hypocrisy in what he does. When you're are flying around the WORLD on a daily basis commuter flights aren't going to cut it. When someone has been devoting years and years of their life to making a better future for the world and all of us who live in it, I think I'll let it slide if his energy bill is higher than the rest of us, especially when he is using renewable resources.

Well, then as someone who apparantely does 90% more than the Gores, I'll look for you driving a Prius (or even a horse-drawn buggy), living without electricity, heating your water on the wood-burning stove, while you toast your feet next to the coal-burning stove that you've installed a filter on so the neighbors don't get sick from the toxins in the air. Curious...how do you power your computer so you can get on the internet?

First, I'm not a Gore apologist. I simply deplore the way people attack those who have money for not doing "enough", when it's the little things we all do day to day that will make a difference.

 

I deplore that a person who is wealthy, famous, a celebrity, etc are always attacked for not doing "enough" while we sit here doing nothing. I've seen it over and over and over. From Bono's works to assist in 3rd world countries, to Gore's works to bring a consciousness to global warming. Somehow it makes us feel better to attack them for not doing enough, while we do nothing.

 

Very often, people simply dismiss or attack based on limited information, or information from select sources. Sometimes, even when presented with evidence to the contrary, those who are attacking simply ignore the evidence, or scoff at it.

I think Al is one of the more moderate electable Dems. Barring 9/11, I think he would have done fine in office. (Not that I'll vote for him.)

9/11 is the main reason we should have elected Gore in 2000. President Bush has used 9/11 as an excuse for everything he has done since. He has hurt the long term security of the United States. Gore would have done MUCH better.

Now there's a statement pulled right out of the backside with no foundation or possible way of knowing if its accurate.

 

If Gore or some of you can justify his use of private jets because it is more convenient for his schedule, then I can justify driving my truck that gets 12 mpg as convenient for my farm. I can justify not riding the bus because driving my own vehicle is more convenient to my schedule and need to meet with clients.

 

I'm sorry, but Gore reminds me of the wealthy types that push for more welfare programs to help out the poor. Before they tell me that I have to give to help the poor (i.e. pay more taxes to pay for the welfare programs) I want to see their net worth reduced to mine as a result of their giving to the poor. Then we'll talk. Until then shut up. Al, move down to a house my size, fly commercial like I do, quit heating your pool (I don't have one) and then you can start preaching to me about what I need to do on global warming. The fact that you are using energy from a renewable source is irrelevant because if you weren't using so much of that energy, somebody else who is using energy from a non renewable source could be using it.

 

The most ironic thing about Gore and his Global Warming crusade is that I consider him to be nothing but a lot of hot air and a blow hard.

 

Sorry Gore supporters, while I respect quite a few Democrats, Gore just isn't one of them. He's nothing but an opportunist.
