February 20, 200719 yr Travis Ford is preparing himself to be the next coach at UK. He's had success at Campbellsville, EKU, and now UMass. Is he ready today?.........Not so sure. Will he be two years?......Yes. The next UK coach is going to depend a lot on timing.... :thumb: I been saying this for the last couple of years! Alot of people say he aint proven, but they dont realize he hasn't been at a program long enough to really settle in at a place. All three schools he has been at now, he has been able to turn them around, and once they start having success he gets the oppourtunity to move to a bigger job, but has to start rebuilding again. That is why he is a name you dont here to much from top young coaches because he is always having to rebuild and when he gets that program going he leaves and starts over again. I honestly think he is ready now if we wanted to go in that direction...
February 20, 200719 yr Donovan Pitino Calipari Few Pelphrey Ford What do you think it would be like if Pitino took the job. Would the fan base be excited or not? Would the energy be at an all time high? Or would there still be some fans that resent him for leaving and eventually taking the U of L job? Personally I would love to see it.
February 20, 200719 yr Crean.....Proved he could recruit at MSU, proved he could develop players (D-Wade) and more importantly has proven he can turn a team around and win. Ive said all along it would be the Nick Saban situation, hot coach, traditional power, match made in heaven.
February 20, 200719 yr What is this big hype on Crean...I'm not a big fan... 1. Before he went to Marquette Creen was the lead recruiter for Izzo and was the point man on all of the talent that got them a title and 2 more FF runs. He has a great eye for talent and is very well connected around the country. 2. He took a very average Marquette program from middle of the pack status in CUSA to competing for Big East titles. Maybe not as impressive at UC or UL (who he seems to have passed from a consistency stand point) but at Marquette it's nothing short of amazing. 3. Much like Tubby he's a great human being and runs the program with integrity. Put someone with questionable values in charge of the UK program, and you're looking at probation before long. The Big Blue Boosters are a win at all cost group, and they have to be controlled with an iron fist. 4. The new talking point is that Tubby doesn't make players better over the course of their career. That's never been an issue at Marquette or even Michigan State. I can't remember Wade, Deiner, Novak, James and so on saying they weren't motivated for a big game. His teams come out playing hard from buzzer to buzzer. Isn't that what is being asked for here? That's enough for now but I've got more if needed...

I think the fan base would be very excited and the town and fans would be going crazy. But the expectations would be higher than the expectations Tubby had coming in following Pitino, because people would expect Pitino to pull of the same type of run he had here the last time and that just would not happen. Pitino and UK would be better off never being together again, just like Florida and Spurrier. Spurrier did all he could do while at UF and probably wouldn't have been able to match what he did the first time. Then Florida goes and gets one of the hot young coaches and they win a title..So yeah Pitino coming back definitely would get people excited, but in the end it wouldn't be whats best for UK and even Pitino...
February 20, 200719 yr Donovan and Few to name a few, but I think we are okay with the Tubster as far as x's and o's. We just need people who can sell the program better and evaluate talent better.
February 20, 200719 yr My top two choices would be Billy Donovan and John Calipari. Both are excellent young coaches and both do a great job at recruiting. Its hard to imagine what kind of recruits Calipari could bring in with the resources and prestige that UK has.
February 20, 200719 yr I like Mark Few (Gonzaga), Tom Crean (Marquette), and Billy Donovan (Florida) off the top of my head. Not sure what the odds of getting those guys would be, but I like all three. I doubt Few is going to leave the Zags, but I think the other two would strongly consider the job, at the least. These guys would be at the top of my list, too. I also like John Belein, but I think I'm practically alone on that.

If Tubby were to leave after this season for whatever reason, and whoever the new coach is would win the title.....Would he get credit for the title, or would it be a "he won it with Tubby's players" agruement? If Tubby exits this year prior to the Final 4, and a new coach won the title next year, the new coach gets the credit. If Tubby reaches the Final 4 this year (there won't be a new coach) and a new coach won the title next year, they split credit. Tubby gets the "he won it with Pitino's players" argument because he has failed to come even close to that level again.
February 20, 200719 yr These guys would be at the top of my list, too. I also like John Belein, but I think I'm practically alone on that. I'm with you. Exciting style of ball to watch, and he's gotten players to play above themselves, IMO.
February 21, 200719 yr Dont think you will ever see a Tom Crean coached team come out and play lazy or like they really dont care. It does not matter who he has on the team, all his teams play as hard as they can start to finish. He is a young coach, should be around for 20 years +.... I really cant say that Tubs teams play with 100% effort (offense or defense).... There is a difference, if you cant see it, then you have no idea of what Im talking about.

February 21, 200719 yr 1) John Calipari is not a young coach 2) He can recruit (albeit by bending/breaking rules) 3) He is not a very good coach.
