February 20, 200719 yr My bad. Few has been offered other step up positions in past years and he has declined for one reason or another... I am not sure if has been waiting for the best of the best or just content in mid-major land? Few has never been offered a job anything like the Kentucky job. I've heard he likes the fishing and all of that, but lets be serious. Even w/ the high expectations of the fans we're talking about the winningest program in all of college basketball.
February 20, 200719 yr Because he's in the perfect spot right now. He's got a pipeline of talent from the Seattle area that love to play for the Zags and he is king in that town. Why would you leave that situation for the super stressful job that is UK basketball coach? If I were a betting man, I would put my money on Few as the next Arizona coach once Olsen decides to hang it up. That is a contradiction. Why would he not leave b/c of all of that stuff you said, but then leave for the Arizona job? Is Seattle in Arizona now?

February 20, 200719 yr A couple coaches I would love- 1.Thad Matta-Not yet a proven coach, but one HELL of a recruiter...Something UK needs 2.Jay Wright-Like the style of play he plays...however just signed a big fat Villanova extention 3.Billy Donovan-Wouldn't happen IMO, he's got it good down in Florida 4.Mark Few-Again, he has got it very good at Gonzaga... 5.Bruce Pearl-Just the type of energetic coach UK has been looking for...
February 20, 200719 yr Travis Ford is preparing himself to be the next coach at UK. He's had success at Campbellsville, EKU, and now UMass. Is he ready today?.........Not so sure. Will he be two years?......Yes. The next UK coach is going to depend a lot on timing....

If Tubby were to leave after this season for whatever reason, and whoever the new coach is would win the title.....Would he get credit for the title, or would it be a "he won it with Tubby's players" agruement? Just remember, Tubby took a team that had been to the final the two prior years. Whoever would take over for Tubby next year (I'll go on record saying that Tubby isn't going anywhere) would inherit a team that hasn't been to the final four in almost 10 years. To recap, Tubby takes over UK at one of its highest points in history. The next guy takes over a team in the longest final four drought in history. I'd say if anybody could come in and take this squad to an NCAA title the credit is all theirs.

I think Kentucky is the premiere job in college basketball, so no, I don't think the Gonzaga job is better. I still don't think Few would leave Gonzaga for UK. If it were up to my opinion of moving up to a better job, then UK could hand pick from all the coaches in college hoops, but it doesn't work that way. Rick Pitino himself was far from being UK's first choice when he landed the job. I don't think Roy Williams, Lute Olson, Tom Izzo, Jim Calhoun, etc would leave their current jobs for UK, but that doesn't mean I think the schools they coach are better jobs. I do, however, think Crean and Donovan would be real possibilities. I'm not saying we could for sure get them, but from what I've seen, Few doesn't seem to have a huge interest in leaving the Zags.

February 20, 200719 yr John Calipari would be a great choice...I know alot of folks dislike him, but, he is a heck of a recruiter, has the big name and can't be real happy in C-USA...I'm sure he would love the challenge UK and there fans would demand and he would play the uptempo style everyone seems to be begging for...He would be my #1 choice, followed by Rick Pitino, Billy Donovan, Jay Wright, John Pelphrey and Travis Ford....

Two totally different things! Those guysa are already at big time college basketball programs. Few is a at a place where he will always have a team that is tops usually when it comes to mid majors but never will be a top program and most likely will NEVER win a national championship there. Yeah he gets some good kids from the Seattle area but its not enough to where he can turn it into one of the top programs in America. At UK he would have the chance to coach at one of top programs in America and could recruit anywhere. Not to mention UK has brought in alot of people from the west coast as of late, so he still probably could bring in some of the players from that area....
