Probably last year where Trinity won 50-7.

From what I heard when I was more in the loop a few years ago, (maybe 2023?) this was all but a done deal but fell through at the last minute. Soccer game during pride week was also going to be played there.

I hope they leave it at L&N. The layers get excited to play at a major college football .

Not sure a soccer filed has the same cache.

Also, it's too small. Only 15,000 seats. Every one who wants a ticket should get one. It's a Catholic community event or at least it was.

If the teams can host each other in their own stadiums as X did last year in the playoffs, and the Kings can play just fine at LFS, I see no reason not to at least try. Not enough fans show up to L&N anymore.

More fans show up at L&N than can fit at Lynn. The actual kids playing the game love playing it at L&N. When the teams play at home lots of people can't get tickets who want to come.

Those are the reasons I see.

This is one of our games of the week. Also, in our opening episode, Coach Brian Landis talked at length about the importance of this rivalry and game. He says, most places, they talk about where they went to college. He said, in Louisville, they talk about where did you go to high school.

Zane Johnson's Dad, Jordan, played for me at Mason County. He was a freshman on my very first team in 1996 and started on the defensive line. The picture is Zane the first time he came to a QB workout and that is Trosper coaching him. Zane has won 3 state titles as the starting QB at Trinity. Trosper was in the pressbox Saturday when the Wildcats won at Texas A & M on Saturday afternoon. Those guys have turned out pretty good. Very proud of both.

That first episode we had Jordan Amis (Hazard), Landis, Dustin Lopez (Christian Co.) & Terry Brown (New Cath). We recorded the Monday night before the opening game. Those guys were on edge. You could cut the tension with a knife. I don't blame them, but I wanted to say, "Guys, the only one on this podcast that HAS to win Friday night is me." 😎

But, it meant a lot to Chuck & I that they would do that opening week. That Monday before game one in a new place can be chaotic and you just aren't real sure exactly where your team is in that situation.

48-0 by St X in first varsity game ever versus Trinity in 1956 (game was "encouraged' by the Archbishop of Louisville). Trinity avenged that lopsided score in regular season game played in 2010.

No doubt, the Rocks win this match.

While I think that was once the case, I am not sure it is now. Attendance has fallen off quite a bit for various reasons. At its highest point, around 2007-2008, the game was drawing close to 40,000.

I have no problem with the regular season game being played at U of L as long as it is not cost-prohibitive for the schools. A major part of the athletic budget for each school comes from this game.

I've always wished that the teams would agree to have Trinity wear all green and St. X to wear all yellow for this game. I think it would give the game a real historic rivalry feel. Think UCLA/USC, Tennessee/Alabama, Lakers/Celtics when they play in LA. I think it was done once in 2009 but I wish it was a tradition.

Well, I think you have to look at the two games as the regular-season matchup and a potential playoff game differently when discussing their impact on attendance.

 For the true high school football fan, there's no contest. Give them the playoff game because there is more at stake. However, from the schools’/ (corporation's) perspective, the regular-season game is a major moneymaker for both schools and the Catholic charity foundation.

 The regular-season game is also promoted much more heavily. Plus, it is guaranteed, while there is always a chance the two teams will not face each other in the playoffs. Both schools promote their class reunions in September and build the game around their tailgating traditions even though the schools seem to do their best to kill that tradition.

 I have always preferred the games held at L&N Stadium what many of us still call Cardinal Stadium over those played on campus. Nothing against Lynn Family Stadium, but these players grew up watching their childhood idols play this rivalry at Cardinal Stadium and wearing the winner's hat. I just feel like playing there means more.

 I did not attend either school, but both of my boys attended and played football for Trinity. They seemed to love playing this game at Cardinal Stadium.

 Still, you have to be honest: at the end of the day, it's all about the money! Also, I'm not trying to be a jerk, but back in the day, this was a true rivalry and competition is what keeps a rivalry alive. Now, it seems like the Rocks dominate it.
