Poplar Level Rd. hasn’t been on my schedule yet this season, but the early word is clear: this might be their strongest team in four years. That’s no small praise considering the level of competition at the top of 6A. Male, meanwhile, is sending mixed signals. Yes, they got past Ballard, but it was far from the dominant performance we’ve come to expect from a program that has set the standard in 6A for over a decade. Losing their top athlete certainly changes the equation, but at Male the expectation has always been “next man up.” Ballard’s own coaching transition to Eastern should have made a blowout even more likely. Instead, the Bulldogs left the door open. That’s what makes Friday night so intriguing. If the feedback on Poplar Level Rd. is accurate, this could be the moment they prove they belong in the conversation with Male and Trinity as the true heavyweights of 6A. A running clock wouldn’t surprise me — but then again, that’s why they play the game.

The hit was clean, textbook, and executed with precision and force. Unfortunately, the officiating crew near Ballard’s sideline seemed influenced by the emotions of the crowd and sideline. Double Running Back Set: The double running back formation with cross-blocking caused significant issues for Ballard in the second quarter. That offensive set was impressive and operated like a well-oiled machine. It was disappointing not to see more of it in the second half. Field Goal by Carson Hilbert: #9 Carson Hilbert nailed an impressive 55-yard field goal. While it’s unconfirmed, this might just be a school record. Ballard’s Head Coach: Ballard’s head coach appeared to spend more time on the field than some of the coaches at the Toy Bowl this year. Defensive Resilience: This defensive group consistently finds ways to overcome obstacles and adapt on the fly. A prime example was #44 Nick Lococo’s massive interception return for a touchdown. Nineteen freshmen have been promoted to continue their football journey this year.

Unfortunately, JB is out due to an ankle injury he sustained late in the game on Poplar Level Road last Saturday. Chris Wilson and Zach Floyd stepped up and did a great job keeping us on track. I'm looking forward to seeing what contributions Benji Rice brings to the backfield. While I can't speak to his athletic abilities just yet, he seems to be a tremendous young man. It's always a pleasure to add a team-first, high-character individual. #GoRocks

Concussion is correct and it took place in the Warren Central (second half) game last week. From my understanding a very mild concussion and should be cleared this Tuesday to participate.

The rumor mill has St. X current QB (2nd stringer) tearing his ACL so, that puts the third string in as the starter for tonight's game! He might be the next best QB in Louisville (not taking anything from him whatsoever) but I would think that would give Male the advantage, Male 24 - St. X 6.

Hat's off to the Trinity JV team! They played well this year and their future is looking very bright! Had some bumbs along the way but the boys always stayed positive and played as a team!

Trinity’s Defense played one of its best games of the year IMO! The D-Line was solid, Linebackers came up and attacked off the read! DB/S did fantastic job on turning and locating the ball! Very nice game all around!

Yes, I am sure the start of the season wasn’t the one that the JV rocks might have wanted! However, as a fan and a parent you can only hope that the boys keep working hard together, get better and that’s seems to be the case! These boys should see some extra playing time coming their way very soon on Friday nights. Also, a question that I always hear around the football field is that each player is only allowed to participate in 8 quarters a week per the KHSA rules, is that really a rule?

Not sure why, however, the Male frosh team canceled both scheduled games against St. X over the past two weeks! (Male added St. X to their schedule which would have had them playing St. X two consecutive weeks. All this was done after Manual canceled their Frosh season all together and dropped the X game) Let’s play that Trinity vs. St. X Frosh game again! Not a fan of the outcome but a very fun game to watch.
