The Trinity Shamrocks (8-2) will welcome the Southern Trojans (2-8) to Marshall Stadium for a first round playoff game on Friday night.

Trinity enters the playoffs on a four-game winning streak and having not allowed a TD since the first half of that 16-10  rivalry game loss vs St. X on Sep. 28th. With the Rocks expected to earn a blowout win here in the first round, could that streak continue?

Southern comes into Friday riding a six-game losing streak.

No need for the Southern bus driver to turn the bus engine off.

42-0 Trinity as the Rocks take the foot off the gas on offense.

Running clock by halftime. 8 minute quarters in the 2nd half.

56-0 Trinity

Would be very surprised if Southern scores.

Lots of kids get some playoff experience! Wonder if they moved any greenies up for the playoffs? They usually do and had a few pretty talented kids.

Here are a few facts:  This series dates back to 1956. Trinity holds a 12-4 lead in wins. The last time these schools met was in 2009.

Nineteen freshmen have been promoted to continue their football journey this year.

Bullitt East had a running clock in the 1st qtr.  I expect Trinity will also.

I'm showing them first playing in 1955, a 27-0 Southern win. Southern's other wins came in 1957, 1958, and the 1982 state semifinals before losing to Christian County in the championship game.

I will double check my information this evening. Thanks!

You are correct, Southrn won 27-0. 1955 was Trinity's first varsity season (juniors and below) and this team finished 2-6. Trinity won 20-6 in 1956.

Another slight correction: Trinity leads the series 13-4. 17 meetings overall. Last meeting in the 2010 playoffs.

Six of the meetings between the Shamrocks and Trojans have come in the postseason. That includes the 1973 AAA title game in which Trinity beat a Phil Simms-led Southern team 16-0 under first-year head coach Dave Moore. Was the first pair of consecutive title wins for the Shamrocks.

35-0 at the end of the 1st quarter. Running clock. A lot of you follow playoff eligibility more than me. Changes so much I quit paying attention long ago. I will say that whatever process creates games like this needs to be changed
