My idea would be to run it back to where there was no portal and NIL, I know wishful thinking.

There is only one player off this year's roster that I absolutely want back - Moreno. No one else is special enough for me to be disappointed that they are leaving.

That said, it is a bad look on Pope if he can't keep half these guys. He brought them here. If they don't come back, each one that leaves is a stamp of failure by Pope.

I actually would prefer that. The free-for-all bores me to death. There's no relationship with a player who a.) needs a car load of cash to stay or b.) will only last a year just to go to the next place. 

 

Look, I don't have absolute ties to UK. It's more about the guys, getting to watch them develop. That's the fun part about college ball for myself.

 

Pope hasn't had any kind of roster consistency since he's been here. It's hard to build a winning culture that way. 

NIL isn’t the problem, the portal and transfer rules are the problem.

 Agreed. They have to find a solution to every single player being a "Free-Agent" every year.

The “easy” solution is everyone gets one free transfer, and a freebie if a coach gets fired or leaves.

You're partially correct, no way you can honestly say NIL isn't a problem.

Take away the NIL, it won't stop it, but will slow it down.

Ok, make it a four year deal, the money you sign for is spread out over for years.  If you transfer you lose your money.  There will be no NIL deals at you next stop.
