Elliott just made the plays down the stretch to win. Way too many turnovers for the Tomcats. Should be a good one if they meet up again.

...I would agree that Buddy Biggs has Ashland playing a different style, and that it was time (if not past time) for a change in the head coach. I haven't really been keeping track of how Mike Flynn has been doing this year, but like you, I wish him all the best...

I too believe that Biggs is doing an excellent job at Ashland, and yes it might have been time for a change. But, I'm with Francis. I will always remember Mike Flynn as a classy individual and an excellent basketball coach who truly cared for his players. Getting to the Big Show is not accomplished by accident and it wouldn't surprise me to see Flynn there again in the future.

Elliott may be one of the best teams in the area. The only thing that could prevent them from moving to state is a very small bench.

 

I have to disagree on the comment about their bench. Elliott Co.'s bench has been a very piviotal part of the success. They use a solid 8-9 man rotation and has 2 players that come off the bench that can change the whole complection of the game. Tyler Maynard averages 9 ppg and Timmy Knipp is also around 7-9 ppg. Timmy Knipp might be the best shot blocker in the region.

Timmy Knipp is 6-5 and very slender he is not old enough to bulk up yet.not only is he tall he can handle the ball, defend,and shoot the ball well. Most tall kids that young have only their height going for them Not so with this kid he is a well rounded athlete.

I agree hoot. This kid has as much potential as any kid in the state.

Knipp should be huge for Elliott for the next four year's!!!!!

That is how all good teams win. We should give Elliott due credit, their defense caused the Tomcat turnovers and they executed their plays just as any good team does to win. This was not just luck as you seemed to imply, but well executed athleticism. Come-on!!!!!!:ylsuper: :jump: :banana:

I don't think anyone is saying that Elliott didn't earn this win. I think that it is clearly obvious that they did.

 

They hit shots that they needed to hit, they were behind in the second half and didn't give up, they played good defense (which forced turnovers), and they kept a cool head in the closing minutes.

 

Without question, they earned the win.

Good win for Elliott. They took care of business at home and did not lose focus when playing from behind. Timmy Knipp is rapidly becoming an excellent player, especially for a "string bean" 8th grader. Here's hoping the "modest two game winning streak" against Ashland continues for a while. The impressive part of the game was Elliott's pressure defense when needed and continuing the comeback with Ferguson on the bench in foul trouble. Tournament time is going to fun this year!!!

Tommy Knipp (8th Grader off the bench) was the difference in the game. He blocked shots, altered shots, forced turnovers, shot the rock and handled the pressure extremely well.

 

He should be in the rotation a lot more after this showing!

 

I watched this kid in the Class A State against Paintsville. Probably didn't have his best game, but I will say for an 8th grader he has no fear, and it doesn't appear he has ever met a shot he didn't like. This is meant as a compliment.

 

Sort of reminds me of a good Bird Dog. You can take a little of the hunt out of em, but you can't put the hunt in em!!!!!!!
