I am curious what exactly about the RPI needs to be address, at least in regards to this issue? Do you believe NCC should have had a higher RPI and had a home game than the teams they had to travel to in the Regional Championship games? I am generally just asking what about the RPI was wrong at least in regards to NCC, and who they had to play?

Before I rant, the way the system is set up, NewCath does not get hurt nearly as bad as Trinity or other teams that go out of state and win big games.  They haven't played the "game" well.  For that exact reason, the RPI is, WITHOUT A DOUBT, the most flawed ranking system in history.  When any system awards you for beating a superior out of state team with the same amount of points as a crap .500 KY team, it needs to go away.  Knowing that it is flawed, and not going back to odd/even hosting for semi-final games is insanity.  NewCath could go the route of other 1A teams and schedule a cupcake 10 game regular season with weak county schools and then their district opponents.  That's against the spirit of competition.  Rewarding teams for not playing a challenging schedule is inept at best.

I guess I’m not as hard on high school coaches as alot of people. Got to the semi finals and a bunch of regional finals. New Cath had a heck of a run from 2000-2015. Best run they’ve ever had. With enrollment numbers being what they are I’d say he did fine. Did us s as fans want more? Absolutely, but sometimes that’s the way it is.

So your range really hit home for me because this was also an amazing stretch for the boys basketball program. 2015/2016 (the basketball season that coincides with the 2015 football season) was the last time they won a regional tournament. 2016/2017 was the last time they won the regional All A. Probably their last really successful year. Is the lack of success since then an indication of something bigger than issues at program-level for football and basketball?

One would have to think CovCath admin have to deal with schools calling on coaches most likely every year.

Considering the amount of NewCath people in the CovCath building, who also happen to be a BIG reason for CovCath success mind you...I can only imagine the conversations being had right now.

No.

Is it true the job has already been offered to Terry Brown?

No.

I think that's very dismissive. There has been a change in administration, change in athletic directors, decline in enrollment, and various other interplaying factors and you think that none of them have had a similar negative impact on both sports? I am not sure which one(s), but I think it has to be considered, right?

Years ago that was considered, yes. Not now. There is a vision and a plan that drives that vision. It is being executed currently.

I don't believe so.  I just think they don't have the talent that they had during that run.  For example in BBALL, they had a stretch run starting w/ D1 Ronny Dawn, through Michael Zimmerman and Markie Krebs to the Schulte, McDonald, Pangallo and then Ben Weyer group.  They haven't had players like that since then.

The administration at the school is nothing short of amazing.  Collopy and Stephanie Gray have improved an amazing environment and the investments made in the building are really stunning.  I know my daughter has been a totally new kid since she enrolled.

NCC is very lucky to have Kenny Collopy as it's head man.

Why that would be welcomed news, I haven’t heard anything yet.

The current administration has done an outstanding job, laying out a future plan, acting on it and accomplishing it. You don’t lay out a plan for a complete remodel/upgrade of the school, a new athletic complex that people have wanted since 1955, and have it almost completely funded by donors if you didn’t have a good outlook on the future of the school.

I’ve heard from multiple families about how their child is almost a different person, in a positive way, since they enrolled at NewCath. Smalls schools have there advantages and certainly disadvantages. In my experience at NewCath it was always a welcoming environment, an encouraging one. Not a “get them in the door, get them out the door and repeat” atmosphere that bigger schools can get caught up in.

Lots of folks from the east side of the Licking River at Cov Cath, definitely:

- Principal Bob Rowe (Brossart grad)
- Asst. Principal Tony Zechella (Highlands grad)
- Asst. Principal/Dean of Students/Teacher Matt Hansman (Brossart grad)
- Chaplain/Teacher Fr. Mike Hennigen (Brossart grad)
- Athletic Director Tony Bacigalupo (New Cath grad)
- Dean of Discipline/Teacher Sam Beiting (New Cath grad)
- Teacher/Football Defensive Coordinator Terry Brown (New Cath grad)
- Teacher/Head Football Coach Eddie Eviston (New Cath grad)
- Teacher/Assistant Football Coach Jordan Mason (Campbell County grad)
- Teacher/Head Golf Coach Ryan Lubbers (Brossart grad)

Might have left overlooked one or two folks just because I don't know where every single person in the building went to high school, but that's a pretty good stack of Campbell Countians. Assistant football coach Lee Teegarden isn't in the building during the day, but he's a Campbell County grad.

Just wanted to point out that it would seem that there was some pretty good information being passed around in late November when I started the "Is Newport Central Catholic open?" thread...despite these two posts from that thread ??

I am told he's the guy as long as he wants to be the guy! Without giving away too much personal information there has been a development in which he would be invested deeply for at least the immediate future past this year.
