  • Colonels_Wear_Blue changed the title to How good was Owenboro Catholic quarterback Dremail Carothers?

D1 good. First year starting for OC and took his team to a 13-1 record with a chance to compete for a title. Only loss comes from a team who is also playing for a state title in 5A… I believe he has more touchdowns than incompletions.

Listened on the radio and he was outstanding. He made every play he was asked to make.  His line was great, which helped.  The play calling late took the ball out of his hands, which was almost disastrous.  I am not sure of his measurables but he is mobile with a big arm.  O-Cath had several great individual efforts last night, as did B-Wood, but for me Carothers was MVP.

BW broadcasters do a fantastic job and listening to them made it sound like he was in total control.  He spotted his open receivers and hit those that weren’t.  Kind of reminded me of what LSU’s opponents must have felt like when Burrow played.

He is one of the best if not the MOST complete QB in 2A. LCA may have the most athletic in 2A but these 4 teams in semi finals had really good QB in 2A along with a few others pulling up the rear.

I love Atwell, and think he should be playing D1 football somewhere, but after the championship loss last year, I kept telling people that OC has a better chance of winning it all with Carrothers. Atwell is more talented - bigger arm and better runner, but Carrothers will take what the defense gives him, as opposed to Atwell, who wanted it all in 1 play. You have to love Atwell's fire and competitiveness, but 2 years in a row his emotions got the better of him in the state championship [EDIT - AFTER CONSIDERATION, ITS HARD TO SAY HIS EMOTIONS GOT TO HIM IN THE MAYFIELD GAME. HE PLAYED LIGHTS OUT AFTER SOME EARLY ADVERSITY]. Hopefully, Carrothers can continue his strong play against LCA.

You don’t see teams do to Beechwood what Carothers did very often. Special performance.

Agree 100%. Definitely need to include props to the OL, especially the young man who filled in for JP Carrico...that said, Carothers is the real deal and I hope he ends up in Lexington in two years.

As good as Carothers was, Beechwood's Emmett Queen matched him step for step. That game was as good as it gets in high school QB performances by both teams. And, they are both juniors, so more to come next year.

Doesn’t Carothers have a few D1 offers? I could have sworn UK offered. Then maybe like WKU or Missouri State??

I couldn't find offers for Carothers. He is not currently listed in the top 14 recruits in Kentucky for the class of 2027 on 247sports.com. I expect that to change.

He's should be. There are 3 QB's in Owensboro that are very good.

Dre'Mail Carothers (Catholic)

Max Johnson (Apollo)

Demcarcus Ganaway Jr. (Owensboro) Might be the best.
