Good win. The Beechwood boys on  the radio said there should have been way more PI’s on the night. They also couldn’t believe OC played conservative on their last offensive possession.

From listening to the broadcast it was a great game.  Congrats again to the Aces and good luck next week.

What a GREAT ballgame. Going in I fully expected Beechwood to be 2TD better but I underestimated the heart of the Aces. Being without JP Carrico and still dominating the LOS was big time. Hats off to Andy Adams for stepping into some big shoes. Dre’mail Carothers looked like a division 1 level QB all night long. The Aces defense answered the bell all night long and showed a ton of fight even with a VERY questionable PI to extend the game with no time. I was also left scratching my head a the onside kick being blown dead when Sims had a ton of daylight to run. It all worked out in the end, but it got a lot closer than it should have. Hats off to Beechwood. They never quit fighting. Queen played a great game and the Fryman kid is an absolute stud. Every single time he touched the ball, you had to hold your breath. Great season from the Tigers.
 

Now it’s on to Kroger for the Aces where I expect they’ll be underestimated again next week. Coach Morris and his staff do an excellent job! I couldn’t be happier for them.

Great game. This game is very simple to explain. Owensboro Catholic's offensive line gave QB Carothers all the time he needed to throw the ball all night. He might have been sacked once? Not sure. Maybe zero sacks by Beechwood? But there were very few plays where Carothers was pressured at all. I mean no pressure at all. And the Tigers never found a way to pressure him. My thought pre-game was Beechwood would score a lot of points and I didn't think Owensboro Catholic would score enough to win. I thought no way they get more than 30 points. They had 27 at halftime. The Beechwood defense could not stop the Owensboro Catholic offense. I will guess O Cath had over 300 yards offense in the first half. Yes, the first half. Probably somewhere between 450-500 yards for the game. Beechwood was also close to or over 400 yards offense and also had a Pabst kickoff return for a score. The game was a shootout, which I thought could happen but I didn't think O Cath would be able to outscore Beechwood. They did. Credit to them on getting it done.

The Beechwood TD on the last play was a pass to Aylor crossing to the right. Well designed and executed. Aylor was open, easy catch, caught the ball at the goal line and was hit immediately but he was in the end zone at contact. The 2 point try looked like the same play but was better defended with 2 O Cath defenders running with Aylor. It was a tight window to complete it and the pass was short of Aylor. No chance for a catch.

If you were at the game, you would agree 100% on going for 2 points. Zero doubt in my mind on going for it. Beechwood's defense could not stop Owensboro Catholic and I would not have expected them to stop them in OT. The Beechwood defense simply could not stop the Owensboro Catholic offense. Yes, you go for 2. We all can second guess the last play. It really isn't fair to second guess it because the same play just worked for the TD and Aylor was pretty open on that play. Better defended by O Cath on the 2 point try.

That's the home team stands. Beechwood fans filled about 80% of the visitor side stands, which were probably half the size of the home field stands. Very good crowd. If stated capacity is accurate at 3,000, I will estimate 2,800 fans there.

She help me understand this. Last year in the state finals a Beechwood front lineman recd an onside kick and was able to return it for a touchdown. This year an OCath player recovers an inside kick and the call it down. What was the difference. I woukd like all the football fans to explain this because OCath had a td on this!  We use have put them up 21

Before we get into the play, he wouldn't have scored a TD. There were two Beechwood players in position to tackle him and he ran out of bounds before scoring.

That said, the refs messed up. The play should not have been whistled dead unless his knee hit when he caught the ball. I think the ref blew his whistle because the onside kick didn't go 10 yards. But if the receiving team touches it first before it goes 10 yards, the ball is live and the play should continue. The refs blew the whistle and that ends the play.

Inadvertent whistles seemed to be a theme last night.

Officiating has to be a really tough job.  Hate it for everyone, even the ref, when major blunders are made.

Most Beechwood fans expected a 3 to 4 TD victory with several even calling for a running clock. Many neutral fans jumped on the hype and the Aces were given very little chance to compete toe to toe much less actually win. Not only did they compete, they clearly looked like the better team and the final score was closer than it should have been. Someone even said that regardless of how close the top 5 teams were in the rankings, there should have been more separation, basically saying the Tigers weren't getting enough credit and were substantially better than the other mentioned teams. Truth be told, they only played 2 good teams all year and they both exposed their defense in a big way. Don't get me wrong, they're a solid team, just not what they were hyped to be. The final RPI ranking may have been more accurate than most chose to believe.

Beechwood was a solid team don't mistake that at all. Speed speed speed and they will be back competing next year again having such a young team. Beechwood has dominated 2A by being in semi final or winning it all since coming to 2A. OCATH now will be playing in state championship for 3rd time in a row wow. Sometimes it's just about home field in the playoffs in high school football. I never really thought it was a top 5 but a top 4 and some others coming up the rear. The top 4 all made it to the semi finals and the scores should how close all 4 teams were and not much separation of the 4 IMO. And the scary part is all 4 or at least 3 will be right back again next year so out of the rest of 2A who is gonna match their talent and energy?
