Reds sign Eugenio Suarez. One year $15M with a mutual option. Nice, needed signing.

Honestly, I thought the gaps would have been more than that.

Whatever it is, they are crazy, huge gaps.

The Reds, Rays, and Angels have agreed on a deal that will send outfielder Josh Lowe to the Angels infielder Gavin Lux and right-hander Chris Clark to the Rays and left-hander reliever Brock Burke to the Reds according to ESPN.

Story just released online by SB Nation that says The Reds tried, and failed, to sign Elly De La Cruz to a record contract. As Redsfest opened on Friday in Cincinnati, Nick Krall spoke with the media about attempting to sign Elly long term, telling C. Trent Rosecrans of The Athletic that “we made Elly an offer that would’ve made him the highest-paid Red ever.”

The Cincinnati Reds will have Elly under team control, for the 2026-2029 seasons with the obvious caveat there being when they seriously begin to consider dealing him for a franchise-altering return since, they don’t have him under contract on a record deal beyond that.

Hopefully he gets his #7 back so that my kids jersies can be worn again.

I don't see Spencer Steer giving up his number. Suarez wore #28 last year with both the D'Backs and the Mariners, and no one on the Reds has that number.

I see Suarez getting a game or two at third each week with the bulk of his time at DH.  I'm wondering if this means CES will be dealt.  Steer is such a better 1st baseman, I don't see him losing much time.

As for Elly, I understand his reluctance to sign here.  He's looking at a huge payday from LA or NY down the road.  The only way it makes sense for the Reds is if he agreed to a deal that would be below market in 5 years.  Absent that, you play it out for 2-3 years and get what you can for him in trade.

RE: Elly contract ... his agent is Scott Boras.

End of story.

Enjoy Elly while you can.
