The St. Henry Crusaders make their first varsity football visit to Beechwood to take on the Tigers, kickoff at 7:30. The Crusaders come into this game riding high after back to back wins, their first two wins in school history. Beechwood stands at 5-1 and ranked number 1 in Class 2A.

The Tigers feature an explosive passing attack. Jr QB Emmett Queen throwing to Jr. Tyler Fryman and Jr. Nathan Pabst has been instant TD's in their two district games. Fryman and Pabst have caught 10 passes in those two games and 8 times they have scored, averaging 35.7 yards per catch. On the defensive side for Beechwood, Sr. Chase McDaniel has 11 tackles for loss and 3 sacks.

St. Henry has done the opposite in their two district wins, using a rushing focused offense. Sr. Caden Kunstek rushed for 256 yards two weeks ago and backed that up with 140 yards rushing last week, averaging almost 10 yards per carry. Sr William Miller and Jr. Lucas Pate lead the Crusader defense.

Just got to love and respect the Crusaders’ story in this 1st year program.  Hints of a future formidable District opponent for the Tigers.  Love to see the Beechies offense challenged and the ground game get tested.  Go Tigers.

As a Beechwood fan who is starving for more competitive district games, I am excited about the future of St. Henry. I am confident they will be a top district opponent but how long will it take. Getting two wins this year with a young roster, I think there is a chance they are at Bracken County level as fast as next year. This was originally planned to be a JV year for St. Henry. They moved it forward one year and they are on track to finish 3rd in the district this year. Excting times for St. Henry.

This game will get ugly early. But, St. Henry starts 7 Freshman including both quarterbacks who are currently rotating time. They are 5-0 in JV with most of the running clock variety so they should be a solid opponent in a couple of years.

Does anyone think maybe 5-10 years down the road St. Henry and Cov Cath will meet on the gridiron?

The Crusaders will just not be strong enough for the Tigers. They will get a good look at where they eventually want to be. Keep working and learning guys!!

I don't know... It's an interesting question.  Hear me out.  I am a big demographics guy.  We are on the other side of the millennial population bump.  NKY has too many private catholic high schools by a factor of probably two (I'll let others argue who those two are)... If St. Henry continues its current enrollment figures AND Cov Cath continues to drop a little AND if St. Tim's doesn't go try the ridiculous and go K-12... I could see a future with both schools in 3A.  Remember, while Lexington is not nearly as Catholic as NKY, the lone catholic school (Lex Cath) is in 3A having dropped from 4A.  The fact is that real wages are stagnant and Catholic school tuition continues to increase.  This is not Ohio where you get money back for paying tuition.  Cov Cath's neighborhoods are grown out.  Boone County is still expanding.  Are you most likely correct, absolutely... but its not out of the realm of possibility of them being in the same district one day.

I see what your saying and you have a valid point. I took the question as, would Cov Cath schedule St. Henry? In the same district they have no choice. But....even if that were the case I don't think it could ever really be a competitive game. No disrespect meant at all. I'm pulling for St. Henry and would love to see it. 

I was told last year, that it was a very real possibility St Henry could be 4A by the end of the decade. I know people who know people. I am not a demographics guy, so take that for what it's worth.

Could absolutely see it... two factors would need to fall in place... One, another expansion of the school.  Two, St. Tim's can't start their own high school.  Admittedly, I don't know how serious that St. Tim's talk is but, it keeps getting brought up every now and then.  

I heard about the St Timothy deal a few years ago. There is enough suddivisons down that way to where I wouldn’t be surprised if it happened
