Them or Madisonville-North Hopkins. MNH undefeated with a win over Paducah Tilghman.

I’m starting to think PT isn’t the same caliber team they were last year. Beat by  MNH and FS kept it relatively close, Mayfield put up 30 against them. …

That O vs MNH should be the game of the week in western KY when they meet. Should be a good 1.

  • 5A feels wide open to me.  I can't wait to see how it shakes out.

Very nice win.  I think Owensboro will have a lot to say about North Hopkins in a couple weeks.  Owensboro has shown how many studs they have across the field and are rolling now.  In my book, O will be favored at North Hopkins when they play.

I feel like Woodford is number one at this point.

Maybe like this as of now:

1 Woodford

2 North Hopkins

3 Cooper (due to Ryle but they got blasted by Manual)

4 Owensboro

5. Atherton

Class 5A
1. Cooper
2. Pulaski County
3. Scott County
4. Woodford County
5. Madisonville-North Hopkins
6. Owensboro
7. Bowling Green
8. Atherton
9. Collins
10. South Laurel

I know Atherton has some high quality players, but their weak schedule is a red flag. I would not pick them to beat any other team in this top ten.

You wouldn’t pick them to beat South Laurel???

South Laurel's SOS isn't a world beater either so that's a possibility.

I think Atherton is 5th or 6th right now by default but they haven’t beat anyone yet.  Decent game vs. Manual though.  Maybe Pulaski is still over them at 5, but Scott’s loss needs to move them down underneath Atherton - they are 7th or 8th now.

I had a feeling Manual would be a challenge for Cooper. I did not anticipate Manual running at will. Their speed was not something for which Cooper was prepared.

Good list but I wouldn’t have Cooper in the top 3, maybe 5. The shear speed of Manual was simply too much last night and Cooper struggles to stop the run. At the time, as you stated, the Ryle win was significant but Ryle has now lost 3 in a row. With the Cooper district being one of the weakest in the entire state, they really won’t have a quality win with the exception of Ryle if that counts but it certainly won’t help their RPI but should be a confidence booster reeling off the next 5 games including non-conference foe SK and getting a #1 seed for the first round at least.

Even though they laid an egg last night, don’t count out Scott County come playoff time. Wofo is the leader of the pack right now. Should be interesting come playoff time.

I am very familiar with both. Atherton would run clock by second quarter.

So Atherton could not put a running clock on winless Eastern, but they will running clock South Laurel. Riiiiight....

Atherton's 4 opponents other than Manual have 1 win - that's it. Just 1 win in total for all 4 of them.

Maybe Atherton is top 10 quality but that schedule makes it hard for me to buy in on them.

Should we do the Top 10 in 5A like they do bingo? Just put the names of the 12-15 teams we all think are decent for 5A, and then pull them out and call them out in order, and that's how we rank them?

'Cause my goodness, at this point, there is only one thing that's for sure, and that is that there is no clear #1. Maybe not even a clear Top 5.

5A is Woodford's to lose. Believe what yall want.

If Woodford makes the finals can their play by play guys be on the call instead of who ever the KHSAA chooses?

I hear you. You could be right. There just isn't much proof to support it right now.

But explain this for me ... why didn't they put a running clock on winless Eastern?

(By the way, South Oldham put a running clock on Eastern and South Oldham isn't in the top 10 in 5A)
