BluegrassPreps.com Class 5A Football Rankings 9/1

Featured Replies

Class 5A
1. Woodford County
2. Bowling Green
3. Cooper
4. Pulaski County
5. Owensboro
6. Scott County
7. Atherton
8. Madisonville-North Hopkins
9. South Oldham
10. South Laurel

Am I reading that right?

Huge jump for WOFO.

Atherton and Scott county are two of the 4-5 true contenders in 5A.

I have a hard time with Owensboro over Scott County.

Same.

Scott Co and Atherton a little too low IMO.

Scott Co. and Atherton are too low.

Woodford at #1 is silly.

Atherton is the only team on this list other than BG that I can see holding St. X to 27 points.

5A is wildly up for grabs.

Somebody has to win something meaningful and at this point Woodford's win over Harvest is the closest thing to a meaningful result. Bowling Green, Cooper and Owensboro have played good teams but haven't won; Pulaski beat two teams that are down compared to past seasons; Scott County has rivalry wins but not quality; Atherton has two blowouts over bad teams and a competitive scrimmage with Boyle County. Honestly, with the lack of positive data for all seven of them, you could probably draw out of a hat and make a ranking that is close to correct

Should be a lot of teams glad South Warren and Highlands are no longer in 5A

This is the truest statement of the entire thread. This division is 100% up for grabs.

I know this post will get took wrong by some but I'm going to ask anyway...

South Warren beat Bryan Station by a score of 56-35 a +21 scoring difference

Pulaski beat Bryan Station by a score of 49-27 a +22 scoring difference.

South Warren won at Bryan Station, while Pulaski won on a neutral field.

The old argument you can't compare schedules will come in effect here I'm sure but I'm going to ask anyway, how big of a favorite will South Warren be over Pulaski when they play in week 6 I think it is.

Pulaski was without their 2 senior starting guards and their starting TE/DE Saturday when they played Bryan Station, was South Warren out anyone in the first game?

I watched the South Warren and Bryan Station game and was really impressed with South Warren, I watched Pulaski play Bryan Station and came away feeling a lot better about Pulaski's chances throughout the rest of the year. The  South Warren win over Manual is the reason I still think South Warren beats Pulaski when they play but I think it will be a great game, AS long as Pulaski stays healthy.

Now of you have made it this far I appreciate the time you took to read a lengthy post and now will sit back and take all the constructive criticism I get for this post lol.

Highlands and South have largely shown themselves to be regular-season juggernauts who flame out in the playoffs. Cooper and BG, and several others, have owned them in the playoffs in recent years (except for the 2021 South team).

If I were either of those two, I wouldn't be patting myself too hard on the back or thumbing my nose at 5A just yet.

Highlands would have to beat Cooper, Wofo, and/or Scott County to make it to Kroger. Cooper has beaten them when it mattered in recent years, and Scott County has dominated Highlands in their last 6-7 matchups. Woodford would be the only question mark, although I believe if this squad can stay healthy they could make a run. Highlands isn’t all that sad to drop down to 4A I’d imagine.

South on the other hand had some more success. They had a monster season and won it all in the 2018 season, and they also won it all again in the 2021 season beating a great Douglass team. While they haven’t won a title since 2021, they were semi-finalists last year losing to the eventual state champion Purples. I’d argue at the moment South Warren would possibly be my pick to win it all in 5A, if I’m being honest.

I think this is a great question. I don't know that Pulaski starting guards are Seniors. They only have 9 seniors listed on their roster. Both teams are well coached, and both teams will be greatly improved by week 6. I think the home team will have an advantage, but they will be an awesome game, and I'm glad to see Pulaski stepping up their schedule since Coach Burns has taken over.
