He was the HC at Ohio County from 2017-2019 and went 12-20 in those 3 seasons with a 0-2 playoff record, unsure where he went after that. He’s been a WR Coach at Mandarin HS in Jacksonville, FL for at least the last 2 seasons.

Thanks, went back and looked at the year-by-year…

2017    7-4

2018    1-10

2019    4-6

2020    0-9

Overall    12-29

Managed to beat a couple of teams with winning records: Hancock (‘17), McLean (‘19), and Grayson (‘19).

Not sure about pre 1998 or not, but pretty positive his 2017 season at Ohio was and still is one of ONLY THREE winning seasons that Ohio County has had in AT LEAST the last 27 years.

The other two belonging to Mike Settles and Todd Houston.

I'd also venture to guess the 4-6 season in '19 is a game or maybe even two above average for the history of their program.

Could be the best hire ever, could be a train wreck. Who knows...

However, those two seasons alone in the land between Beaver Dam and Hartford Says all I need to know about his capabilities.

I never said that! I said that new talent would come in! Meaning think you will see kids within the city will migrate to OHS! I kinda compare it Deion going to Colorado lots of excitement and new players wanting to come play there!

I wish this was true, but I can't say it will happen. You had so many leave in the past. Then you have Deion Winstead leave to stay with Demarcus and only get one offer to KWC. If I wasn't FILD I would send my son to Catholic or Apollo because both Edge and Morris can get kids recruited. Just my opinion. I'm in full support of Demarcus and we are going to do great things with what we have. We need to WIN or it will be all for not, the first win has to beat OC. I'm not expecting us to beat ST.X or Cal, but beating OC is a must.

We already have kids migrating to us. ODCYFL is a league the has kids come to us.

GO DEVILS!!!! FILD!!

I expect it to be another great game!!!  Just pray injuries are none to a minimum!!!

Congrats to Coach Ganaway!  I look forward to seeing what he does with such a storied program!

Congratulations Coach Ganaway!  The 40-page saga is done and a new coach off Frederica is settled now.

Owensboro is still a very strong, proud football school.  They have a great group assembled for this coming season.  Great chance for Coach Ganaway to have a strong start as Owensboro's Head Man!

Best of Luck!

I’m unsure what on the resume would’ve made the board comfortable handing over the keys to one of the most touted public school programs across the state to someone who hasn’t won as a HC nor has any experience of coordinating. After seeing the hire it made me think of Mark Spader who is at Bowling Green, another highly regarded public school program in our State. He had a horrendous HC record with the Raiders of Warren East across town, however the man put in years with the Purples from position coaching to coordinating and is now reaping the benefits of his time invested in the program as the HC. I suppose there is no right or wrong way but in my opinion this hire was about who you know rather than what you know, and that’s just how this world works sometimes. With all that being said I do hope he finds success and can lead young men as well as the people who handed him this job believe. Best of luck this season to Owensboro and Coach Ganaway!

What will the OHS faithful think if they lose to Apollo and OC?  And possibly St X and CAL!  Not sure what other teams are on the schedule!

Kevin Wallace was the same while at Warren East for 10 years in the mid 80’s to mid 90’s.
• 15-20 games below .500

• Not a single winning record season

• Not one playoff win.

Then? The rest is history.

Chris McNamee at Pikeville? Same.  He had a four year stint at Pike County Central back in the 2000’s where it was all 4 win seasons.
Gets the Pikeville job back? Voila

Point being? There are a lot more bad football programs in the state than there are bad coaches (obviously Warren East isn’t the same Warren East of then & I’d think anybody with half a brain, whether they coached there/coach there or not, would attribute a lot of that to the growth in that area compared to 40-30 years ago).

Beechwood? Their new HC? Won two games at a perennial dumpster fire in Ohio over a 2-3 year span. Gets the Beechwood job? And they haven’t missed a beat

The overall W/L record of a person doesn’t tell the whole story or even close.  You have to look beyond that:

• Program history? What was it like before them? What was it like after them?

• Number of coaches altogether and/or in a particular span of years, especially if it was a revolving door dumpster fire. Reasons beyond the coach(es) IMVHO.

On and on and on, but you get the point.

Not as familiar with EKY/NKY history but I do know Wallace didn’t get hired after his stint with Warren East; he was apart of the Bowling Green staff for a couple of years under the late great Dan Haley before he took the helm. I’d even argue that he learned more in those 2 years on how to sustain a winning culture than he did by himself in those 10 years at his Alma mater. I’m not judging the man for his W/L record as much as I’m questioning whether or not he knows what it takes to be great because the resume doesn’t give the impression that he does because he simply hasn’t. I’ll gladly be wrong in my opinion of it being a hand out sort of hire, but no one can argue that his resume warrants an opportunity to coach at Owensboro. Since ol Warren East was mentioned I’ll add that they just hired a coach 2 years ago who had no coordinating experience nor HC experience, I don’t look at the two programs as equals but similar hiring process I suppose they’re not too far apart, which you and I know that is far fetched. Just expected more from Owensboro quite frankly.
