Final from King of the Bluegrass.

Newport is a major disappointment this year.

Yikes!

Wow I was way off on this one. Amari Owens for Bryan Station is a player!

Looking at their scores coming in, I didn't see they Newport was getting all the hype.  They had lost to a couple of very ordinary teams in Ryle and Campbell County.  Bryan Station is a top 10 team.  They won by more than I expected, but I thought it was going to be a solid double digit win for the Defenders.

Newport flat out quit about halfway through the second quarter.

Do you think there is an issue with the team?

Didn’t Newport lose a D1 prospect to transfer?

Yes Taylen Kinney top 25 player in 2026 went to Overtime Elite in Atlanta. They also lost 2 players to graduation who were also key contributors to their team last season.

WOW! 29 points!! Shows just how much the departure of those 3 players has impacted this team.

To paraphrase Dean Wormer.

“Fifteen buckets and no made threes is no way to win a basketball game, son.”

Will players/handlers start looking to jump ship for the next best thing? In today's day and age, I would not be surprised.

23 turnovers is a killer too.

Newport will be better with Rondon, but they still look like the 3-6th best team in their own region this year. I think this shows you how good those players were that left.
