Open Job: Henry Clay

We're doing a very unscientific poll here Do you consider the Henry Clay job a good job?

Yes, it’s a good job. Pay is good for KY when you consider teacher/stipend pay combined. Decent facilities. You’ll always have several kids that can play. And you’re in Lexington, which in itself is a pretty significant incentive. I would say the job has more going for it than is against it.

Also Henry Clay breaks ground on a new school and new athletic facilities in 2025. It will (allegedly) be finished by 2028. In a perfect world that would lend a pretty good hand to your football team.

No, most of the good players in Middle School go to Frederick Douglass or Bryan Station in High School. Really the only Lexington Schools that are relevant in High School Football is Douglass, Bryan Station, LCA and Lexington Catholic.

Sayre did just win a state championship.

Where will the new school and facilities be located?

Same site it's going to be done basically how Bryan Station and Tates Creek were done.

Why doesn’t the Fayette County School Board get more involved in the imbalance of football players at FD and Bryan Station compared with TC, Henry Clay, Lafayette and Dunbar?  Kids are openly “taking their talents” to FD and BS. The School Board steps in and requires the Fayette County public high schools to play one another in the regular season but then turns a blind eye to the disparity in roster builds. They are enabling the haves and the have nots.

Anything that exacerbates haves and have nots is really bad because it is happening "organically" too.

I don't think Fayette County requires public schools to play each other anymore. Frederick Douglass didn't play Henry Clay, Lafayette, or Paul Dunbar in the regular season the last two seasons.

Thanks for the update.

Correct. It was a rule up until 2 years ago. The only schools playing Douglass have been Station (in same district so they have no choice) and Tates Creek.

On players transferring.... Tates Creek had several players transfer in and start or play major roles, two of which were from Douglass, their Rb transferred from LCA.

Yes they did. Now Sayre’s tuition last time I checked was very costly.  Which probably makes what they have done under Pennington even more impressive. Comparing Sayre though to pretty much just about any program is not a fair comparison.

I was told that Sayre’s tuition just eclipsed KCD’s as the most costly in the state. I have no evidence to support that however, so take that with a big grain of salt.

I am not sure what is now but pre-covid it cost $22,000 a year.

Wow! I wonder if they have scholarship opportunities for young people who just happen to be rather athletic? I do know parochial schools offer financial assistance for deserving students.
